Power loss issue - 6th Gen Accord 5MT
Sorry for spelling in advance & Cliff notes on the bottom!
hey guys now before i even start explaining the problem i understand that there could be a million and one reasons to why this is happening, like brakes dragging, tire pressure, alignment but its none of those the problem is engine related now even with that it could be another million things; im just trying to figure out if the following could do this to my car and if its a big yes or maybe....
Car: 2001 Honda Accord 5MT
Driving Habbits: 1st till 5.8k and then easy the rest of the way when im beating on it (just to get out of the stoplight quicly) - but recently due to gas prices i've been keepin it under 3.5k 80% of the time
Mods: Apex N1 Axle Back
Past month or so i noticed my baby hasn't had the same pickup as before, the rpms shoot up but i dont quite feel the same power, some things i feel could be the issue is my last oil change i asked for the best oil (once again im not supper w/ cars) and they put in valvoline syn power 5w-20, it could be my timing belt because thats due for a change soon, another thing which sounds far fetched is maybe gasoline companies started adding more ethenol (sorry if i get the whole fuel science messed up) which results in loss of power. I use 87 octane.
Last but not least, this is more of a noticed changed then a reason - i remember when i 1st picked up the car (March 18th 2005) driving it around i was confused because i couldent feel the vetc kick in (trying to compare it to my buddys h22) well i learned that the f23a1 being a sohc doesnt produce that high of a power gain in vtec thats "feelable" because of the smooth fuel maps -- now i actualy feel the bastard kick in which makes me worried because technicly speaking im not supposed to feel it.
Cliff Notes: Horrible decrease in power, could it be my timing belt issue and how would i check that, could the vtec sensor be cloged, or is it a change in fuel?
