Dome light 96-98 civic w keyless
This isnt a question about "hey I installed an aftermarket deck..."
I installed a compustar and removed the factory deck - I do NOT want to put it back in there.
What I want to know, is how I can use a spdt relay to make the dome light turn on when I open the door?
Ive thought about just splicing into the door pin, as the ground, and then linking the relay into the dome's ON wire...but then the dome wont come on when the door is closed (since the ground is broken)
Any other ideas?

Most people dont get the right harness that will allow you to keep the oem entry. You can also go to walmart where they sell them for 7 dollars if you dont want to wait for shipping. Some audio place stock them but we dont stock the plug and play harness becuase we just just the stock harness.

I dont think walmart sells what I want. Im sure they sell the thing that makes people keep the stock deck in, though. Which I am not doing.
Thanks fcm...looks like the bypass just jumps two connectors. You wouldnt know which ones?

Well it had it when my neighbor needed it. But you can try with the bypass connector!

It looks something like this:

It connects to the wires in back of the Aftermarket hu and the stock harrness. Last time i went to walmart they had them. You can also get them from crutchfield.com. But the thing is the civic have 2 connector to keep all the oem stuff.
Heres from crutchfield:

no I didnt cut anything
I am not using the stock deck
I am not using a Y adapter
I am only interested in powering my dome light by modifying the wiring
I dont need a harness that they sell at walmart for installing an aftermarket deck
You dont seem to understand what I am doing. Dont take offense, but please just disregard this thread.

relax, sorry but at the shop i work at its a rule to install a y har. unless stated by the customer. It's the easiest way to do it and it also keeps all the oem stuff including the dome light and entry. I know its chessy but when you come to us we try to get your car out of there in less then 45 mins. So do what the guy said and tap the green/red and green/black together.

Sorry i say relax as wow sometimes. I know you said you dont want to use the stock head unit. but with these har. you dont use the stock one. you soilder the wires to an aftermarket one and you connect the har. to the stock har. It just makes it simiple to install an after market kit for the people who dont want to cut the stock har. but you dont use the stock hu.

That I didnt know. I havnt worked on 96-98 civics yet. I learned something new today. Most of the cars i did i just used the harness and that took care of all the oem stuff or some cars didnt even need the wire bypassed because it had a aftermarket alarm. Forgive me i havnt been in the audio buss. long (1 to 1.5 years) Im still learning right now. yeah the school showed me how to do installs and stuff but theres thousands of cars out there and there not all the same. but try splicing the green/red and green/black together
The factory radio in the 96-98 lx/hx/ex control RKE and domelight. If a customer already has an alarm or doesn't have the factory remotes then there is no point to keep the factory radio in the vehicle when changing decks. If this is the case then there is no harness that I am aware of that will take care of the domelight part, so you just jump the wires. If the customer has factory remotes then there is a harness that will tee the factory harness's power to the stock deck and run everything else to the aftermarket.
Also the dome wires are not in the radio's main harness, they are in a secondary harness for the RKE.
How can you have been in the industry for over a year and not done one of these? I have been in car audio professionally for over 8 and have done hundreds.

Cause ive only started working for a shop for about 5-6 months now. reason being is i went to iit and then i came back to so cal and went to another school so i didnt get a chance to find a job while i went to school. another reason i havnt worked on alot of cars because the shop i work at is new and its a slow start. Im not trying to lie to anyone but my work experince has only began. Im not saying im best Fcm and most of you will kill me at the knowledge you know. but when i come down to do the job right and at a quick pace i can do it. I know some of you are thinking yeah right sure you just dont know what your talking about. Fine with me no one knows me. But not all you guys started off as pro's. I hope to finish school and transfer to a better job were i can get better knowledge about audio and video. Im working my butt off to accomplish that dream but its not easy with school and little unexpected things. Ive learned alot from all you guys and i thank you and i wish there was a way to repay you guys.

I thank you for the info. I know im surpised to about not working on one. But like i said i dont think people trust the shop yet because it being so new. But word will get around soon. Also now i have more knowledge if one dose end up coming in. Thinking about it ive mostly done kia's. Ive done like 5 kia rio's(1 of them was a 5000 dollar system) and like 2 3 kia spectra. Ive also done my civic and my friends but his is the new ones. Ive done a 99 ford ranger and some esclades and some accords. all the cars ive done were 99 and newer. But like i said i thank you all for all the info i gained and i hope to learn more
Also lets let this thred go. all he has to do it connect the green/red wire and the green/black together.
