Default Knock Sensor?

Do I need a knock sensor? What is its purpose? I have a 94 CX and I have a vtec head swapped in. I have vtec wires that I am putting in and I need to know if I need a knock sensor. I am in the process of running the wires for the o2 sensor, but someone please IM me and let me know if this is necessary or not.
Thanks

ehh...depending on wat ECu ur running...if ur running a p28...u won't have to wire up the knock sensor but if u run a p72 ur ugnna have to and if u don't wire it up and ur ecu requires it...ur timing is gunna retard 2 degrees and it's gunna slow u down no doubt
