Default quick question....

I am looking at getting rims for my car but for performance reasons only. I don't care what my car looks like so the question is ....

Does it make that big of difference to get lightweight rims?
the rims will be about 400. is there anything else for around that price that would be a better bang for the buck (other than nos ).

I have heard various things so far. theoretically they should but opinions and experiences would be great thanx.

Depending on the construction, they may fail. If they're lightweight and not strong enough to handle daily driving, that's a big problem. What wheels are they?

not to jack your thread or anything but rotas claim to be lightweight and i was wondering if you think a 16 inch set could hold up to the rigors of daily driving?

They should be fine, Rotas makes wheels for Subaru apps, and they're much heavier and see more stress

I am looking at the 17" Motegi RT5's now... i was lookin at the motegi trak_lite 2's but they are like twice as much. 19lbs each... not real light but you know.. light. i am sure they will be plenty to handle my driving.

A good wheel/tire combo will give you the best bang for the buck.

Good lightweight wheels with some stickier tires will help immensely.

Motegi's are kind of 'common ricey' wheels but tehre's no problem with them.

IMO 17s don't really equate to lightweight unless you spend about $1,000 on rims alone. If I were you, I'd just go with 15s or 16s.

For street applications, pick what you want and install it.

The consideration you're dealing with when you're looking for light weight rims is "Unsprung Weight". This (lower weight) allows the suspension to react to bumps and impacts faster. In uses like autocross, you'd see "some" improvement, but as several have mentioned, High Performance Tires are the Bigger Bang in this case.
