Default trading in type r questions

I was planning to trade in my type R before school starts because I don't have a place to park it during the school year. It's a 2000 PY type R with a drag gen turbo kit. The car currently has 48,000 miles. The car cannon pass smog legally and I was wondering if dealers will still consider letting me trade such a car if I don't mention anything about not passing smog. What price do you think I can get for trading in such a car, I'm located in the bay area, california so I was assuming maybe I can get around 15,000 for trading it in. Any other suggestions or inputs for trading in a car is also welcome. Thanks. I hate to see her gone.

If that were really true, you would find a place where you could park it. You spent $15-25K on a car, plus even more on mods, but you can't find a decent parking place for like fifty bucks a month?

Sorry, but I just have a tough time believing your story. (Of course, if you're not willing to tell the truth to someone who's buying your car, why should we believe you're telling the truth now?)

A dealer will not take it.

yeah they will not take it.

1. keep the car

2. take out the turbo and then trade it

well if the dealership goes through the normal process. the seller is obigated to sell/trade in a car that can pass smog. far as i know drag turbo's are not smog legal. so even though you may get the trade in done... they may also come back and have you pay the fee's they had to incur to make it pass smog...

State of California

The seller is required to provide the buyer with a valid smog inspection certification at the time of the sale or transfer. Smog certifications are good for 90 days from the date of issuance.

The inspection is not required on a transfer if a biennial smog certification was submitted to DMV within 90 days prior to the vehicle transfer date (a vehicle inspection report may be required for proof of certification).

Starting January 1, 2005, smog certifications will not be required for transfers that occur for any motor vehicle that is four or less model years old. A smog transfer fee will be collected from the new owner.

If they changed the number after you signed a sales contract specifying the trade-in amount, then you can sue them for breach of contract.

If your sales contract didn't say anything about the trade-in, then it was a separate transaction and you never should have signed it if your willingness to purchase depended on how much you would get for the trade-in.

I remember someone recently getting what they wanted from the dealer for a BMW. Dunno though. If I was told 17k for trade in and they came back with a lower number I would have played the "I'm walking out now" card and see what they did.

they need to make moeny with used cars. i'd expect 10,000. they need to sell it for around 15,000 to make some kind of profit. they have to look over the whole car to make sure it works, warranty..etc.
