6 speed box info or poss group buy
Does anyone know of any companies that produce a six speed or a sequential six speed box?
If not then, I have spoken to quaife and if there is enough interest then they would be willing to produce some. It would have to be a min of 5 and would cost around £3000, which is about $5500 to produce.
Anyone instserested?

i'm assuming it comes with a quaife already installed, correct?
if so then it really only costs about $4450, still a **** load. but it would be a completely brand spankin new tranny. i'd really think hard about this, especially if the price could drop another 500-1000$.

When i spoke to the guy he told me that the price could well be lower depending on the amount of interest and how much of the box is interchangeable ie if parts could be used from other boxes.
Being quaife the box will be able to handle alot more power.
I cannot see a problem with choosing your own ratios as it would all be made to order anyway.
I was looking into buying a new box for my kit car so that i could get a new licence plate and the cost of a box is £1800.

If ever there was a car that needed a 6th gear, its the prelude.
I cant tell you how many times I've been doing 75-80 already, and thinking I was in 4th. Love the ratios for zipping around, it just needs that last highway gear.

This is exactly what Preludes need.
Too bad that's waaaaaaaaay out of my price range. Although you would save a little money afterward in gas. And we all know how much that means nowadays.
BTW, I'm pretty sure you can't swap a K-series into a Prelude without makingn it RWD.

5000 for a custom transmission from quaife isn't that expensive at all. throw in a diff and custom ratios and it's actually quite a bargain. Previously the numbers thrown around for such an item were more akin to 20,000.
but yeah, good luck finding people with 5000 bucks

exactily. 5500 for a transmission. you've got to be kidding me. maybe if i owned a ferrari f430 and my tranny died on me, then i would justify spending that much on a tranny but on a h22/3? that is rediculous.

Plenty of people drive around $25,000 civic hatchbacks with serious gear in it.
If my car was purpose built racecar, and in a class where tranny mods were open, i'd seriously think about buying one of these.

Seriously. And as for drag racing. Think about how many huge hp pros just destroy trannys after 10-20 passes, even if they get them for $500, you would still spend more than that in a season, and since quaife warantees their stuff even for racing, you know it would be stout. And think. A quaife runs oh like 1g now, install is like 3-400 and a new h tranny is around 1g,custome ratios $?, a rebuild would be 1000-1500, so you ar looking at at least 3500-4000, for a new rebuilt tranny, I would deffinatley drop the 5g's, that is a huge bargan.

Guys, $5500 for a sequential 6 speed tranny isnt that bad. In Japan, HKS, Trus and OS giken all make aftermarket trannies for GT-R's, silvias and RX7's. The OS giken makes a 3 gear set, and a 5 gear set. They are close ratio hardened gears with a hardened titanium input shaft. They just now started making dogmissions too. HKS and trust have been making Dogmissions for a while now. Cost brand new is about 5G's. Would you spend 5G's on a sequential dogmission that will never break and will cut a second off your ET? if you are a serious racer its a viable option. FYI, OS makes gearsets for Honduhs too. check out the link.

i'd see it being worth it if you were a serious road racer and competing...that's the only place i think it would be worth it..

yea, thats for sure. In my case, the tranny is now the weak point on my 7. If I keep breaking trannies I'm going to havew to get something. I could probably get by with the Os gearset. Same with most on this forum. The one OS gearset was only 900 bucks!! 900 bucks for hardened titanium inputshaft and gears. Plus they are shorter, close ratio gears.

its one of the only mods that will make your car faster, help save gas, improve traction, make your car handle better, doesn't need to be tuned, and increases the overall reliability of your car. hell it seems like a bargain!
if i had a job I'd probably fork over the cash, but being a full time student it wouldn't be too smart for me right now.

Good points. You can easily spend that much on visual stuff, I guess its a matter of whats important.
If there was a bulletproof 6 speed for this car, I'd consider it.
