Had to share...my blowout on the highway...
So, I'm driving along with 2 friends in my Prelude. On the on-ramp to a highway, I hit a pothole, and hear a slight "bang". Figured i bottomed out, so I kept driving. Was going about 75-80MPH for a good 5-10 minutes when I feel a slight vibration in the car. Thinking I might have bent the rim, I slow down, and start looking for a gas station to pull into so I can check the tire, and get more air if I need. As I'm driving slower, the vibration goes away, so I speed up again. Vibration comes back, so I try speeding up a little more. The vibration mellows out for a bit, then starts coming back again. My friends ask if I have a flat, 'cuz now they start feeling the vibration.
"Not sure...lemme pull over and check."
I pull over,. and this is what I see...
Talk about F@#$ing lucky! I'm surprised i didn't lose control or anything. Did lane changes, accelerated, braked, and it didn't really feel all that different, besides the slight vibration. And I have had flats before, both on stock tires, and low-profiles...and this experience didn't feel anything like those. The tires were Nitto's NT450 205-40-17, and I was basically driving on the sidewalls.
This is what it looked like with the tire off the car
Comments? I just had to share...thought this was freaking hilarious.

Amazingly, the rim's perfectly fine. Not bent, but a minor (1 inch or so) scratch. Seems like the car was riding on the sidewall, which is pretty hard, and attached like glue to the rim.
And yes, very lucky I didn't get into an accident or anything...

holy **** man, thats fricken incredible. i would have always thought riding on the rim would b a huge difference, even with that little bit of sidewall left.

Holy **** I cant believe that 1 your car didn't go out of control, and 2 the rim looks unscathed!
You prolly figured this out by now but if you ever feel vibration like that, especially after a noticible bump, pull over right away and check things out. Having a blowout at 80 mph can make a car do BAD things to you.

That's happened to me too! I sorta hit the side of my tire on the edge of the sidewalk, nothing felt different at all really, but I thought I should pull over and check and I had a huge flat! Ludes =

Honestly, I was planning on changing those tires anyways. I have 2 tires with Toyo Proxes 4's on 'em, and was planning on changing the NT450's to the Proxes as well. It just moved my timetable up for doing that.
