Experiences with 225/45/16 on JDM 16's? (search is down...)
My current daily driving tires are feathering and I need replacements. I've decided to go with the new Hankook RS2. I've been quoted $400 mounted/balanced for a set of 215/45/16's by a friend of mine who works at Discount Tire, but he also has a set of take-off's, 225/45/16's that were only ran for a month. He would give them to me for $300, including mounting and balancing.
The factory Potenza RE010 is 215/45/16 on the JDM 16's, would stepping up to 225/45/16 cause any negative effects? The car is only 1/4" lower with stock springs and Koni Yellows (using the lower spring perch), so rubbing wont be an issue I would think.
TIA,
Marshall

The front should be fine me thinks,
But i believe the back may rub with that width.
I'm pretty sure one of my friends bought that size tried it, couldn't live with the rear rub and sold the tires after a week

Yea I'm leaning towards the 215's mainly because that is the OE size. I do not want to loose any responsiveness, even though these tires will only see street use.
Its hard for me to picture the 225's rubbing though. I'm more worried about the drive of the tire, but if rubbing is a problem then 215's are what I'll choose.

id definantly go with the 215 over the 225, im actually running 205/45/16 but my car is lowered on spoon springs which i think is a bigger drop than yours.
My car just barely clears the rear guards and occasionally rubs on the front if i hit a big enough bump.
btw wheels are 16x7 volks

Like Kavehman said, rear might be a problem, unless you have a big enough gap in the rear. With 225, the tire might not clear the quarter panel if the car is slammed.
I am running some really fat 205/50/16 (R-compound) with coilovers, and I rub every now and then.

the issues is not only width, but also the profile.
which will translate into .5" more of the tire (sidewall height) over the 195/55/15's
personally I would go with 225/40/16" or 205/45/16", latter offers more tire choices.

switch that and it should work, otherwise you will probably rub once you get near full lock in the front.
