Should I clean my EGR ports? 91 Accord LX 5spd
I just came across this DIY on cleaning EGR ports:
http://home.comcast.net/~em-engineering/T2T013.pdf
I have a 1991 Accord LX 5spd with 230k miles and I don't think the EGR ports have ever been cleaned. I don't have any of the symptoms and my car has passed smog every time (in California, too!). Still, I kind of want to clean them because it'll give me an excuse to get a slide hammer.
The DIY says that the problems are more noticeable on auto trannys and I've got a manual although I doubt that really matters.
So, the questions: Is there any reason not to clean them? Is it a good idea to clean them every X number of miles?
Thanks for any help. Now I'm going outside to wash my exterior and engine bay -- this project comes after the engine bay.

Well, regardless that I think there's better uses for a slide hammer; there are two ways to look at this.
1) Do I want to scr...w around with somethin' that ain't broke? or
2) Do I want to wait until it's entirely clogged and have a totally "bitc...'n time trying to clean it out?
Odds are, If you drive a more "spirited" style than most you'll find it clear. It's when you buy a "Granny Grocery Getter" used (you know, never reached operating temp, never got over 52 mph) that you run into these problems.
If you enjoy a challenge, go ahead
