Default problem starting/stalling (h23 '92 manual)

car starts fine in the morning, but if not started in the morning, it does not want to start in the afternoon ( i think it has something to do w/ it being close to 100F outside ). anyway, the other night it randomly stalled when i let out the clutch (yes, i was giving it gas) and then it wouldn't start back up immediately, but started with no problem 5 min. later.

i've seen similar problems fixed by replacing the main relay. ideas?

Not a lot of info to go on there... Some regular tune-up type stuff might fix it. Maybe some injector cleaner...

only other thing that i can think of that might be related is that it burns quite a bit of oil on startup. the chassis has 165k, motor was supposedly changed at around 120k after oil pump seized. just bought the car at the beginning of the summer.

other problems i can think of:
- the clock is weird. sometimes when the car is started up the hour will change every second.
- burns about a quart of oil every 750 mi.
- throw out bearing (i think) is going out. makes a rattling sound every time i push the clutch pedal.

i don't know if any of that is related or if it helps at all, but thats all i can think of that's wrong with it

sounds like it could possible be the main relay

OK basically to start off an easy way to see if its the main relay is that you turn the key to the on position (do this when the car isnt starting) the check engine light should turn on then turn off a second later if it doesnt turn on or it doesnt turn off then its probably your main relay. also It sounds dumb but if the light stays on kick the lower dash by your left foot if the light goes off its you main relay.
the relay is located down by the left kick panel up on the wall. they say its somewhat hard to get to. I hope this works. or helps

try this and if its not it tell us and we can try something else

thanks. i'll try that this afternoon and let you know.

oh, one more thing, the last time it didn't want to start, i push-started it. once the motor turned over it sounded like it was misfiring on one of the cylinders for about 10 sec.

i'm gonna go ahead and check the plugs to see if any of them are fouled... i hope this isn't just too much oil leaking into one cylinder, except i can't see that affecting the engine starting at a certain time of the day...
