93accordlx no 3rd gear.
i'm still learning about all the car stuff so forgive me if this is a dumb question.
my accord (automatic) has no 3rd gear if i put it in drive when it gets to about 60-70 it just revs and doesn't go past 3rd.
is it something stupid that can easily be fixed.
or do i need a entirely new transmission if i do what is the cheapest solution.
thank you.

unfortunatlly if it is just 1 gear there is no easy fix but to tear the tranny down.
Now it coild be some thing as a torn o-ring but if i would think any mechanic that have to put their name behind it would do a complete overhaul, replace all o-rings, clutches, clean out all the valves in the valve body ec etc
.or you could install a used or reman tranny ...I would do a net search for reman tranny unless you find a used tranny with very low mileage ,,,,if you decide to go with another tranny and you want to save money find the tranny and take it to the shop yourself , unless of course you replace it urself

I'm going to pick out one thing deserthonda mentioned, because it involved a trans failure I experienced (my personal car at that time) which involved not only a 4th OD failure, but would exibit NO upshift out of first (during cold weather; if the gas pedal was fully depressed in error) until the tranny warmed up, and you could only force a shift by reving high then releasing the gas pedal.
I equated it to a Throttle Valve Cable failure which I experienced as a GM tech. The cable would sieze in the "applied" position, effectively calling for a constant downshift.
I'm refering to "spool valves"; those located in the valve body. Evidently, there were several which were sticking in their bores and wouldn't allow proper shifting.
My fix, a trans flush using a BG flush machine (and product) and two fluid changes one week apart (using Honda trans fluid only.
I consider myself very lucky that it worked. The car now sits in my driveway (as a spare if one of our daily drivers has to go into the shop) with 228,000 miles. It faithfully starts once a week and the trans has given no more trouble.
