pics of my new and improved valve cover
I started out with this beat valve cover that looked like it got ran over by a mack truck. so heres my progress from start to finish. let me know what you think.
started sanding the letters off, then found out there was a fat dent
filled with hi temp JB weld and sanded down, then sprayed with 500 degree ceramic primer
finished with a rattle can wrinkle paint from pep boys
not bad for a couple hours work, 10 bucks in paint, and a free valve cover...could have turned out better but it was my first try.

Yeah, what grit sandpaper did you use to sand down the letters? I tried doing this on my CRX valve cover, but I can see ripples in the metal after I painted it.

did you just use sendpaper to send down those letters??
post some steps

1. find shitty valve cover
2.remove paint with paint remover, spray can works well
3.wait 10 min
4. hose off with water
5. sand with 160 grit (preferibly with a electric sander takes about 30-45 min to do the whole thing right)
6.fill in any lowspots with O.G. JB weld (not the kwik set)
7.sand with 400 grit ( to get jb weld high spots even)
8. mask off breather, oil fill, and spark plug holes (paint chips in your oil cant be good)
9.spray wrinkle evenly
10.wait a day for it to fully dry
11. unmask
12. install new gasket
13. install on car
your car will smell like burning paint for a week or so but dont worry about that it will go away eventually...
