Default opinion on cheap upgrades wanted

I have searched and looked through all the threads without satisfactory answers, so excuse my ignorance...

I have a couple hundred dollars to mod the R and I am thinking of getting the DC jdm R header... I know smsp and hytech rule, but I cant afford either of those... is the DC a waste of money? or for $288 is it a good power/$$ upgrade? how much power will it give? 10whp?

my other question is - is it worth getting the spoon or mugen thinner head gaskets to raise the comp. to aprox. 11:1 if I dont have the money to get cam gears and dyno tune it right now? with the price head gasket, milling, cam gears and dyno time I could almost just put higher comp. pistons in... is that the smarter choice??

one last question... I have seen that several people on here run 12:1 compression /w rw pistons... does this settup run fine on 92-93 octane street gas, or do you guys run a 103 mix?

thanks for your opinions
-Dan

wow, that is a great header test.. thanks for the link... it really looks like DC is the best for the money.. you gotta spend more than twice as much for better performance...

The only issue with the DC header is ground clearance. It has thin walls and dents easily.

The DC performs well, but I've heard it hangs low and dents easily as well. The ceramic is also prone to cracking after a couple years, so if you can I think by all means go Stainless Steel.

Cheap upgrade...shifter bushing ~$9, motor mount inserts ~$40, make your own intake ~$30-50
