Lowering 5th gen with STOCK SHOCKS?
How much will my 5th gen 97 accord LX handle for its stock shocks? im thinking some H&R's, which will do 1.75 in front and 1.5 in rear. Will the front shocks blow fairly quickly? Or will it still be ok? how much can my stock shocks handle!? thanks everyone!
theres no way to tell when....
but they will blow sooner than they would on stock shocks, and you wont get the same handeling improvements

if u keep ur stock shocks the ride will never be right. and it wont take long for you to regret not getting the package ( springs and shocks) if moneys a problem its worth the wait

I had the same car with coilovers and new kyb shocks that I bought for stock height. Even with brand new shocks that weren't made for the lowness I was most dissatisfied with ride quality.
You would definately be better off waiting and doing both together. Plus it will save labor if you do it together as compared to doing it now and then replacing in 3 months.
Unless you like that kind of work

i got 94 accord ex. my springs were neuspeed and lowered it the same height. i used stock shocks but the ride was noticeably bumpy. after couple months like 4 i wanted to get some konis. ride is better. but yea you could use stock shocks, but if u got money get some aftermarket ones. ride quality/handling is LOT better with aftermarket shocks.

first everyone is saying stock shocks, im guessing they are the same as struts? if so....
Im not saying everyone is wrong, just giving my side. I have lowered my 5th gen. 97 honda accord se, i bought 2 front new stock shocks , and kept the older back. It has been about 3-4weeks sense, and the ride feels great and no problems, nothign is blown (however i have never driven a lowered car with other then stock shocks, so mabey they ride could be diffrent, i just wouldnt know) However, if i did have the money i would have gotten the whole package, i know waiting is better, but if i had to wait it could be years lol (ok not years) anyways thats my 2 cents

BTW they're struts at all four corners........
I've gone w/ aftermarket springs and stock struts and that was a mistake. This was on my Integra. I never got around to getting struts for it.
I bought a used '91 civic w/ crap Maxspeed springs on stock struts. Worst ride ever. Also couldn't get my hands on some nice struts before selling it.
Now that I have this '95 wagon...........I searched and waited to find some nice springs and struts. I ended up getting used H&R Sport springs ($50) and used Tokico Blues (~$130ish) and did the install myself. The ride is SO much better but I would definately have to say this......NEVER buy used struts. I was (and still am) on a strict/tight budget and that's what I was left with. Now, almost 8 months later....I think the struts are going out...
