04 gsxr 600 engine noise [clank/clap/slap]
alright guys, i just bought an 04 gsxr 600 blk/org, my dream bike. it has 4000 miles on it and rides extremely well. heres the problem;
when under load and in any gear, at around 4k plus rpm, i hear a clacking sound that goes with the rhythm of the motor. like a clapping, somewhat like a diesel but not fully. i don't know exactly what this sound is but its not normal, and is somewhat loud.
i have owned a zx6/929/636 [should have kept the honda, it was my favorite] and none have made this noise. at first i was hoping it was a sound normal for gsxr's, but then i asked my friend who owns an 05 750 to ride it and hear it, and he confirmed my beliefs.
i have researched some about this noise, and it seems it could be piston slap, but it happens when its warmed up, not only when cold. also, it only makes the sound under load, not when free revving. even more so when am in a higher gear and lower rpm and i gun it, you know how it struggles because it's not in the correct gear for maximum acceleration, this is when the sound is loudest.
also, there are bubbles in the oil. i read it could be the pcv valve or overfilled oil. i checked the oil level and its not that much over, just a little over the center line. i will change that real soon to see if anything happens.
besides that, this bike is very new, like i said only 4000 miles, and everything is clean on it. let me know what you guys think, thanks so much for reading this.

I have the exact same bike and approaching 6K miles. Never heard of this particular problem. Definitely do the compression check, if the piston's slapping the comp test will give you an indication.
i have 1400 miles on my 05 gsxr 600 it makes all the noise in the world but it runs like a champion. on gixxer.com forums i did several searches and came to the conclusion that many others heard the same noises and that there is nothing wrong - it is a machine, it does make noises .... the gsxr vibrates a lot, my 1000rr was a lot smoother.
