I'd say it depends on your goals, cash in hand, and year/model. Low cash - d16a6 or z6, more cash - boosted d16z6 or NA b-series (newer/heavier-b18a, older/lighter-b16), lots of cash - either boosted b18.
Daily driver - go with torque. Boosted 1.6L with smaller t3 or b18a/b20z.
