I had the older 8500 for two years and have since upgraded to the 8500 X50 model. I have mine hardwired using the smart cord, so there are no unsightly cords hanging over the dash. I highly recommend this detector. It picked up a Ka signal around a sweeping highway curve at what had to have been 2000 yards. I was cruising at 85 in a 50 and the X50 started giving the warnings. By about 1200 yards it was at full strength screaming at me. These numbers may not seem impressive to some, but the angle of the sweeping turn was so great that I could only see about 100 yards of road in front of me. The State cop was camped out at the end of the sweeping turn shooting the Ka right me. This detector has saved my *** countless times. If you have lead foot tendencies, then you need the 8500 X50.
