Need help diagnosing my 88 accord lxi
Sup, my chick drove my car till it overheated and died on the freeway. Basically had the car towed to the pad, opened up the thermostate and it basically crumbled to pieces. Also there was brown scum all around it, didnt look like oil but rust. Well after about 8 straight water flushes, the radiator drains out clear water, no oil or anything. Go to start the car and its starts perfect and idles great. Its just when I let go the gas idle drops and car dies out. Oh and theres no dark or white smoke blowing out the pipes, know what this could be?
Well, it obviously doesn't idle great, cuz it won't idle.
That being said, You're fortunate you didn't suffer a complete melt down.
It would appear that the ignition system is up to the task at hand, and mechanically it passes muster (on the first look, anyway), so that would lead us to fuel/air and it's control system.
Have you had the engine up to operating temperature yet? (such as the cooling fans have started cycling). If we could determine if it's a cold idle problem, or occures thruout the operating range, it would better point towards what it MIGHT be happening and what the culprit might be.
Bad IAC, ECM Engine temp sensor, O2 sensor??? At this point it could be any / all or none of these.
Need more info
