a/c help!!
Finished installing a/c to my civic, and after the vaccum and recharge...the a/c doesn't blow cold. I put 1 can of recharge in, and only hot air comes out. Leaks were checked already when we had it vaccum. I don't know what's wrong. Help is appreciated...cause I've suffer too long w/o a/c in my car.
More info... Is the compressor kicking on? Is the condenser fan blowing? Did you check that the freon level is full? Usually 1 can is NOT enough. . . Are your manifold lines cold? Try pouring water on the condenser, if it gets cold, then either the freon level is low or the condenser is dirty. More info man, more info.
^3 cans but the "cans" come in different sizes.
i can't remember exactly but i think the civic uses what ~21-23 oz. of 134a, i think
when you pulled it under vacuum....did it hold a vacuum? what were the readings on the gauges? what kind of gauges were you using, an a/c manifold gauge set i'm assuming??
also like the other person said, is the a/c compressor kicking on?

sorry for the late reply guys. I've been away from home...working. But yeah, the compressor does come on. When I went to get it vaccum...it did hold at vaccum. I took it to a a/c shop to vacuum my system, but I put the freon in myself. Only 1 can though. When I checked the guage, it was at 45psi...I think. Everything seems to work...the fan and compressor. Also, when I turn the a/c off and drive, I feel warm air coming through my vents and under the dash. That's the weird thing. My climate control settings are not pushed in, but I feel the warm air. Please, more info. Should I add more freon??? Thanks for the replies.

first of all man take that **** to a shop, r134 is not like the old stuff where can just put in 3 pound of it and it will work, it has to be precise. secondly there is a pressure switch in the compressor that will not let it kick on if the pressure is too low. but if you want to do it yourself, most part stores sell good guage sets that you can use, i would evacuate the system and make sure to buy a manual and put the right amount of oil(and the right type) as well as the right amount of freon. being an ex parts store employee i have had alot of people ask the same questions and try buying the do ityourself all in one freon fill crap and it never works. take it to a shop it costs like 70 bux plus freon( like 7-10 a pound, but they will do it right, and good shops guarranty their work.
so when you vaccum everything, do you also have to put in the oil? And then the freon? If so, then maybe that's the case. Cause I didn't put no oil in...just straight freon after the vaccum.
There is no way that one can of freon is enough. Despite what signorrelli21 told you, I have seen many sytems that were simply dumped of their R12 charge and recharged without vacuum run for years blowing ice cold. I have seen R12 systems have 134a added to them and still run though I would not recommend this. He is right that vacuuming is better as is the proper addition of the correct oil. But, 134a systems are not more ticky than R12 and do not have the same problems with moisture as R12. I think it is best to replace the dryer when you do the conversion. If you can't add more than one can of freon you have a blockage somewhere. Also, have you checked to see if your air mixer door is closed properly?
Thats the door that moves when you change your temp **** from blue to red. It's located in the blower assembly that houses the heater core and evaporator coil. Somewhere on the passenger side where the console meets the floor toward the firewall you will find a bellcrank that is actuated by your temp control ****. Move the **** while you are looking to help identify it. Then verify that the **** is able to fully move the door .
okay, I checked and that my be the problem right there. My climate control **** isn't working properly. Don't switch from cold to hot smoothly...I think something for the switch is broken. Oh well, I guess its time to visit the junkyards. Thanks.
Lots of times the **** strips out. Honda sells them for about $5 or $6. Once you get this problem fixed your freon pressure should drop and you can finish charging the system. One can is not enough.
