Default 92 EG Suggestions for mounting racing harness to chassis?

Does anyone have any tips on mounting a snap-in racing harness to the chassis without having to drill any holes? My current setup is Recaro Speed seat mounted to a Wedge Engineering bracket with a tab for the OEM seatbelt buckle. I am using 2 eyebolts mounted in the rear OEM seatbelt mounting points as well as a longer eyebolt for the driver side (door side) OEM seatbelt mount point. My problem is getting an eyebolt attached to the tunnel side. There doesn't seem to be any room to mount an eyebolt to the Wedge Engineering bracket (hole for OEM seatbelt is too close to the tunnel for eyebolt to fit - bracket will not line up) other than to drill a hole on the floor or the tunnel and use a reinforcement plate. Any suggestions will help greatly. Thanks!

You have to drill holes, and use backing plates to install the eye bolts. This is how the lap and sub belts of my snap-in harness are mounted. If you cannot use the OEM seat or seat belt mounting points, there is no other way to install belts with snap-in ends.

Thanks for the advice. So if that is my option, am I correct in saying you mount the reinforcement plate from the bottom side of the car and the eyebolt will screw in from the inside? Was there welding involved and how do you keep water from getting in leading to rust?

Simpson had instructions on thier site. not specificly for your civic but they show you how to install belts correctly you will have to do a little work to find the proper spots.

Yeah eventually I will, but for the meantime, I installed the included eyebolts at the two rear OEM seatbelt mount points. Whenever I get the harness bar (which isn't cheap ) I will just modify it to work with it....Thanks!

I looked on the simpson racing site:

http://www.simpsonraceproducts...nting

But is there something more specific on where exactly to mount? They did say not to mount to the sheetmetal floorboard. If I HAD to drill and you a plate, I was thinking on the side of the exhaust tunnel itself so that it is somewhat close to where the OEM seatbelt would mount.

Thanks!

No and really you should not mounts the belts without a rollcage and a harness bar. You can seriously injure yourself if you do not properly mount the belts at the corrent angles and in the correct spots in reference to your body. Not worth the risk if you are just doing it for the looks really.

Correct the plate realy is jsut held on there by the bolt that is holding the eye bolt down. When i did targa car we used plate on the top and bottom just to be on safe side cause that car does see quite a bit of track time.

This car is primarily for autocross use. Did you have to do any welding for those reinforcement plates? Or was it just held in there by the eyebolt. And how do you prevent water leaking and rust?

We didn't do any welding. The reinforcement plates are just held by the eyebolt and some washers. This is the write-up that we pretty much followed - it should help. Remember to be VERY careful and always triple check when drilling into your car. Drilling through a brake or fuel line is obviously not cool.

As far as water leaking and rust, you could use some sort of adhesive or sealant on the back of the plate. Also, paint the hardware with some Rustoleum or similar before installing.

I don't drive my EF track car in the winter at all for salt/rust reasons (and because there are no winter autocrosses or track events here ). I already have enough rust to deal with, I don't need any more.
