Default Cheap Rebuild...Thoughts, Yes or No

Just bought a Obd-0 ls motor out of a 90 teg to drop in my 91 civic hatch. Fortunately a got it for a good price but it has roughly 200,000 miles on it. I'm definetly replacing the timing belt and water pump and some other mis. seals before I drop it in...But I was wondering if I could possibly replace any of the main or rod bearings without having the expense of machine work done. Btw, the motor will be fully built within a year for a turbo setup, so I want to keep costs down as of now but I need it to last untill then, I'm not planning to beat the living **** out of it (I have my teg for that ), but it would be nice to take it to go drag racing occasionally before I tear it down for the turbo build.

Definitely. My last motor I just used a ball hone bought at whatever auto store, or a tool truck, hone out the cylinders with it attached to a drill. Measure the new bearings with plastigauge, and you're all set. The only machining that I would say is NEEDED is to make sure the head gasket surface is flat. I use mics now to measure everything if I feel like taking the time, or I can just slap it together and beat the **** out of it

Thanks, I assume new piston rings will be needed as well after a new hone. Any good links or write ups on honing cylinders...My last (first) build I had the machine shop do the honing

Not sure on this, but I read somewhere that modern rings dont need the cylinder to be honed given that it isnt egg shaped. I think it was rocket who told someone that.

You might ask him about how to instal rings without completely rebuilding the motor.
