HF Transmission VS. Si, Custom gearsets?
Howdy Y'all,
I have a few questions. I am going to be rebuilding my engine soon and I'm trying to figure out what direction to go with the trans. My three choices are an HF tans, an Si trans or an Si trans with an HF fifth gear. Here are my thoughts:
-An HF trans is going to slow the car down somewhat however it will be a lot quiter on the Highway (i commute 45 minutes to work several days a week). At 80 I would cruise at 2500.
-My Si trans as it is now im sure would be faster than the above option however on the highway at 80 I'm at almost 4000 RPM, not very fun after the first few miles.
-An Si trans with an HF 5th gear would seem almost ideal however the cost is what I am worried about. I cant figure out what RPM I would be at with that since the RPM calculator I'm using doesnt have that option and I don't know the gear ratios right now.
Any help/personal experiences you have would be greatly appreciated. Again, I'm specifically interested in the difference in acceleration between the Si and HF as well as the cost of having the HF 5th put in a new transmission.
Thanks again,
~Matt

finding the HF 5th gear, or tranny alone is the hard part. too bad a lot of HF owners do a swap and dont know what to do with the old tranny, so they chuck it.
