techie help needed on 90 civic si
so i just found this hatch today, its a 90 si in almost perfect body condition, very clean, just minor hail damage on the hood and the roof. from what the guy says it has a sohc zc engine in it. when we started lookin at it we tried startin the car and it didn't want to stay running, it would crank over then die again right away, we got it up and running, took it over to a buddy's house and played with it there, still doing the same thing, won't stay up and running. the only way that i could get it to stay running was to have it in the actual crank positition, the start pos. once you let it fall back to the run/on position it would die again. the guys got kind of a weird setup, he's got a button up on the dash for the neutral safety switch or whatever thats supposed to be under the pedal so you can start it, so you have to push it there. it also had an alarm on it that i don't know anything about, not sure if it has a kill switch or toggle anywhere on it but from what he has said, he has had it for about 5 years or so. if anyone might have any kind of ideas on what the issue might be i'd really appreciate it, i can get a sweet deal on it right now, i could pick it up tonight but i want to make sure its a quick cheap fix. one other thing, when we got it running and drove it we had smoke comin up out of the steering column, the only thing that we could think is maybe that one of the wires might be bare and we just blew up the ignition in the column it self... SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!
thanks,
Joel

sounds like an electrial nightmare. If you think you can handle redoing the underdash harness back to stock I say go for it. If you can find a civic in the junkyard, you can rape it of all the underdash goodies and you should be good to go. good luck
