Why wouldn't the "tach" read the rpm's the way is supposed to?
Does anyone know what could cause the "tach" to read "low rpm's" at all times?
Also, does anyone know if the distribuitor influences the tach?
Thanks!!!

It's a 4 cylinder.
If I'm driving at high rpm's, and hold my foot still, it will take a few seconds, and slowly, the needle will go up, I guess... to show the right rpm.
Let me know what causes it.

Actually, there shouldn't be any electronic reason why. The signal from the ECM is a signal, is a signal.
All auto instruments are dampened, so that the needles are easier to read, but the tach not so much (so that it can react to rpm changes without delay.)
... and then you don't know if it's even accurate.
I'd await furthur contributions from others, perhaps they have direct experience.
The only thing I can come up with is someone may have applied a light machine oil to the Tach mechanism ( a definite no-no) thus imparting resistance to it's moving freely. (truely a real long shot)

Perhaps raceACCORDingly has the right idea

There is a tach lead coming from the ditributor, that's what determines your revs-per-minute.....I believe that it goes right to the ecm. I think that the lead is blue, might want to check the ignitor module inside the distributor...this can affect the tach if it is faulty.

There's a white background in my dash. When I bought the car, the guy said it wouldn't read because the white gauge face was peeling, and the needle was touching it.
The truth is that, the needle isn't really touching the needle.
I thank everyone that posted to help me!
Thanks a lot!!!

test to see if u are geting the right output from the distibutor,,,, put a online tech in the blue wire coming out of dustributor and compare the reading to the gauge's ,,if you got good tach reading on the online one than you got a bad gauge or wiring going to gauge ......if reading is erratic than u got an issue inside the distributor
