Help me figure out my launch
I've never had this problem before.
I've used slicks for all last season, 22x8x15 MT. I used to launch with the turbo at 1-2 lbs boost at WOT at 7k rpm and pull consistent 60' times of mid-to-high 1.8s, which is average. I've had traction bars since before I got the slicks so that's not an issue.
This season I have a new turbo that is roughly the same trim as before and I am running a safer map and making less power by 10 or 20 hp. I have also installed Tokico Whitelines and some generic (stiffer than before) coilovers on the front and kept the same rear springs.
I can't hook up for the life of me! I have the rear shocks on 5 (stiffest) and the fronts on 4 (nearly full stiff) and launching at 6500 rpm the car will spin the slicks all through 1st gear and get a pathetic 2.0 60'. If I launch at 5500 rpm I can muster a weak mid 1.9 60' but the car bogs horribly. If I don't launch at WOT at 6500 the car bogs and I only get a 2.0s 60' again.
My burnouts have always been weak but this year I'm getting much better and getting some good smoke out of the slicks and not sitting in the waterbox. I think I could have mustered a high 1.7 last year with the heat I'm getting in the slicks now. I have tried from 12 through 9psi, nothing seems to help.
I plan on trying 6000 rpm and WOT next, but I'd love some constructive criticism on what I'm doing wrong. Thanks!

Try running lower tire pressure. I run 7.5. Also set your front springs softer. I have mine set at the softest setting and the rear at the hardest. Are you dumping the clutch or slipping it? Are you slicks shot?
I'm dumping the clutch smoothly, not sidestepping it, but going pretty damn fast. I'll try setting the fronts softer, thanks!
The slicks are a few seasons old at least, they were used for a couple of seasons when I bought them last year... maybe they're just toast
But all the same my friend was pulling 1.8s on them with his turbo SOHC earlier this season so they shouldn't be that bad right?

I noticed lately that my 60 foots have been getting worse and worse. I use to pull 1.6's all day now I am down to 1.70 so I just picked up a new set this weekend to see if that helps. Mine are a few season old also.

well imo mabey wheelie bars would deffinetly help (traction bars?) I'm running a 26/10/15 MT and run 5 psi before the burnout usally after they go to about 6 to 6.5. try the softest setting on your shocks and spring rate in the front and opposet in the rear. mabey setting your limiter higer with a bit more boost off your launch. also all weight up front helps alot to anyways good luck
Not sure if you run the slicks the same direction everytime, but if so try swapping them the next time you run. Also look at the slicks and see if they are clean, glazed, or feathered. Kinda tells you what they are doing. Also look at the indicators and see how much tread they have left. One more thing, how far is your car lowered? Some cars lowered too much will only use about 4 inches of the insde of the tire. It will be rounded and feathered in that area if thats the case.

good point being to low with no adjustment causes neg. camber which makes you run on the insides of the slick.

Thanks for all the advice guys, very very helpful
Yes the car is pretty low but I have some camber adjustment to bring it back into line somewhat. I've never paid attention to slick direction before and I was never sure on how to set the shocks. Thanks all!

Got to the track again last night, car was hooking up really well with the front shocks at full soft and launching at 6k, so I think that was the problem! Thanks to you all I got a new personal best: 12.45 @ 112.75 mph

I'd be happy with a mid 1.7! That's not on 22s is it?
