It took me four years to sign my first dollar sponsor. It is now going to take another year before there is any real money on the table. It didn't matter how fast that I went, it is all about personal relationships and showing the sponsor that you can do more than just drive a car down a track.
Get a nice proposal written up, spell and grammar checked. The possible sponsors will either be impressed or not.
You need to know that this is a competitive field. Relationships and knowing people, really does play a part in it on top of being a good driver and having a "fast car".

more imput would be greatly apprechiated. We have several but their just parts sponcers not that we're complaining. (thanks to all ours sponcers) But were looking for something like a corpret sponcer, the potential is there just not the money. Doing so in canada is even harder because ther is barely a sport compact scene here theres about 5or 6 cars that run 9's and lower in this huge country. This is why we beleive no company would be willing to spend big money to market through our hot rod!

Let me ask a question then (and feel free to not give me exact values). Is he asking too much or can he not find the right sponsor for his needs?
I'm just wondering for my own plans.

There are many others out there as well. Even some of the Pro RWD front runners have a hard time getting $$$ sponsors. Many times you have to shell out your own $$$ to complete a race car and run it, and as things get going good then you might recoup some of your money.

sometimes it seems like you just have to suck at driving, have a car under construction for years thats all hyped up or have **** to get a good sponsor.
nothing against those people that fall under that category. but like tony mentioned about chup.ck winning the championship.I can name many more people that did really well or won championships and still having a hard time getting a deal. SAV LEON is one person that comes to mind.
But i'm sure we all sat back and heard that such and such got a big sponsor and everyone of said to ourselves...HOW THE HELL THAT HAPPEN???? HE/SHE CAN"T EVEN DRIVE OR HASN'T EVEN MADE IT DOWN THE TRACK......BLAH BLAH BLAH .

Are you in good shape physically, do you have the gift to gab, do you promote your self endlessly? Spend time at the track tracking people down and letting them know who you are? Do you bring atleast a 1/4 mill race team to the track all year and do well in comp. These are some of the major criteria I see being met . Maybe not all together but most . Product sponsor isn't even easy. I pay top dollar.

i see i see, well here it is, i went 11.8 on a bone stock ls motor with boost and bfg's
and 11.5@126 on bfg's on an ls vtec with forged pistons and rods,
this past weekend at the honda acura in ohio shootout i took 2 cars there
street all motor and power street, and came in 1st for both runing from car to car
and the other car we took up took 1st in all motor pro, he went down the track 25 times and every run was 12.1 with 205 hp untill he lowerd his tire pressure to grab low 1.6 60's
i was just curous how hard it to get but from the looks of it its not gonna happen
Edit: i will go 10's on street tires before the end of the season!

these days with the help of the internet, in my opinion it is easier to get sponsored...
Instead of just trying to get free parts from anyone, try to use products that you would normally use. It is important to believe on the products you want to promote.
Another thing that is important is confidentiality. Once you get some kind of a deal, don't go around saying what you got to other people that do business with your sponsor.
There are different ways to achieve this, I would classify them in 3 categories:
1) Do it by the book. Put together a very organised proposal, with pics etc... what you can do for them etc.. and wait for a phonecall or a letter/email back
2) Approach your potential sponsor and let him know you like the product and that you want to promote it and if you could give you some free stickers or more info or give you a good deal on some part etc.. Basically, do not ask for a freebie just yet... establish the relationship first and hope for the best.
3) This is the last resort to get sponsored but usually works the best. I cannot give details because this is a public forum but anyone with common sense will know what I am talking about...
YOu want Intel? Go talk to them with an AMD shirt.
You want Budweiser? Go talk to them with an heineken in your hands.
Best of luck!

Any sponsor is a good sponsor. Even if it is just headlight bulbs. You take care of that sponsor you never know, they could open a door for you at NAPA. Take all that you can get and treat everyone like they are your title sponsor.
Also, don't look for a sponsor that can build your car or that will pay for all of your travel. Large deals take time so be prepaired to spend a lot of your money to hopefully make it back later on. I can't remember who said it "in order to make a small fortune in racing you need to start with a large one".

Just ask Chris Dye from ClubRSX for a sponsor

Actually if you are serious about trying to get a sponsor. Just show up to trade shows like S.E.M.A. and P.R.I. Get your face in the place and make sure you make a good impression when you talk to th epeople at the boths. alot of the time it may start out as a product sponsor, but in the end it may be something bigger as long as you are doing your part like keeping good communications with the sponsor.whether the car ran good or bad. they want to hear it all and hear your next step in making things better...especially with their product.
Dude, you aren't sponsored by RacerX "Are you Sponsored?" yet? They pay all that money to advertise sponsoring people, and you haven't even hit em up yet?

ya know, titjobs in LA are pretty cheap... you can get a good one for $3k. And you can finance them!! Might not be a bad investment.... $3k tit job for 10k in sponsors?? hmmm....
ps - if you're interested, i can show you a little something that I wrote about sponsorships about 3 years ago. I'm working on another piece right now, but I can't show you that one until it comes out in print

When I did the proposals for Lasking Racing we spent a lot of time and money getting it to look nice. Castrol Oil told us it was the best one they've seen. In a way I was kinda insulted because we didnt want an award to look nice, Laskey needs money!! lol
but a word of advice, Always give respect to those who help you out and in return others will help you out. Always remember those who helped you get your start. Use every opportunity to get your name out and go and network with people.
