JDM ZC SOHC NonVtec
Hey guys this is my first post here. I was wondering if anyone had ownd a JDM ZC sohc nonVtec motor. I wanted to know any differences between this motor and the D16a6. i heard it has more aggresive cam. Any info would be great. I ask because my 89 civic Si came with this motor when i bought it. Engine stamp says ZC.
well, since youre new, i wont shout at you to search...
but if youre inclined to do your own research, just type SOHC and theres a lot of threads on this.
anyway, the SOHC ZC block is exactly the same as the A6. the head is different, and it depends on if the engine was originally a dual carb or MPFI. if it was carbed, then the cam will have an extra lobe on the distributor end, itll be really obvious. also the head will have a port on the backside thats probably sealed up. the specs of the carb and MPFI cams are different.
the MPFI SOHC ZC was rated with a slightly higher HP number stock. about 118hp. this is due to the difference in cam, and exhaust manifold, and probably the different ecu. but i think the stock HP numbers for the A6 are underrated anyway.
it doesnt really matter what is installed already, if its DPFI or MPFI. the carbed ZC head bolts up to whatever intake system. so dont take it as fact that if your car has MPFI already, that the head was originally MPFI.
anyway, more info here. [link fixed]

i have an 89' civic hatch back with a sohc zc swap. but my motor is rebuilt. i just recently blew the head gasket using nitrous..but the motor itself is worthy of its name. the sohc zc is a very powerful engine, power wise its stronger than the d16a6. or i believe so...
with my car, full interior, bone stock motor. i've beat many cars.
straight run races, off the line. i have beat a 93' GSR integra B17, 93' LS integra B18a, and 1 B16a. all the people i raced never thought i would be running sohc but when i poped the hood they were surprised. here are some pix.

real japan throttle body and motor.
