Can my stock 91 Accord handle this 1800w amp + 1200w sub?
I just put a new head unit in my car. It's a Blaupunkt Bermuda MP35. Anyway, when I was putting it in, my brother decided to give me an amp and a subwoofer.
The amp is a MA Audio SY7011DX and the sub is a MA Audio MA1200XL with dual 4-ohm voice coils. From what I understand, they're pretty decent.
I'm planning on wiring the sub to the amp and keep the existing four speakers running off the head unit. That way, I can install a switch to turn the amp and sub off if I need to.
I know it's a lot of audio power and I've got an alternator that's only rated to 86 amps. I don't listen to music very loud but I'd like to be able to have some bass kick when I want to.
So I guess my question is: is there anything that will stop this from working?

I would look into both an extra battery and cap. 1800 watts is alot of power for just the stock battery. (start up, alarm, lights, radio, etc...) So on top of that add an 1800w amp with a sub that nearly takes all the power out of the amp.
What I like to do is:
one 12" sub= 1 amp,
two 12" subs= 1 amp, 1 cap
one 15" sub= 1 amp, 1 cap and 1 battery

I think I'll get a cap once I get it going and make sure everything is working. Right now I'm having some problems when I hook everything up (the system protection LED comes on on the amp and I haven't gotten it to produce any sound from the sub.)
Also, the amp says to use at least 4 AWG wire for the 12v power. Does that sound correct?

yeah 4 awg sounds good. check the ground wire on the amp and the remote.

The remote turn-on lead works and the amp turns on and shows its temperature and voltage input. But the system protection LED lights up.
I'm thinking this could be do to how I'm hooking up the power. I don't have a long enough 4awg wire to connect it to the battery so I'm using a set of jumper cables to both power and ground the amp. Is that the type of dumb thing to do that would give me problems?
