1988 Nissan 200SX V6 (Silvia S12)
Brother's new car, very rare. Only a few hundred in North America. Chassis code RVS12. The engine is a VG30E, which is a single cam 3.0L V6, very rare engine. I doubt many of you have seen one of these before. RWD with 165hp, it gets up and goes faster than a stock 240SX. Paid $1800 for it with 98k miles, a steal.
Bone stock minus the Silvia badging. Excuse the pics because I'm no pro photographer.
Enjoy.

Hummm, very interesting. I've seen several of those, but never noticed one with "Silvia" badging. Always wondered when I'd see one done up, would do it myself if I had the place/money

The badging was custom. The car didn't have the stock 200SX SE V6 badges, so my brother had a guy make up a replica of the Silvia badge the car got everywhere else in the world.
It's definitely a rare car.

Ahh, ok. I don't know if I'd say "Rare" but rather "seldom seen"

With a V6 though? According to what I've read the V6 is very uncommon. There are a lot of I-4 ones.

I've seen 6 of them at the local pick-a-part junk yard.
I've seen a few on the roads too.
the most rarest ones are the turbo models.
i've only seen 4 in my life time.
I don't think that VQ motor is stock. Only 300Z came with those VQ motors.
IIRC, the stock motors are FJ and CA

The VIN comes back as a stock V6, and we've researched it plenty. I never heard of it either when he bought it, but they do exist. It's not a VQ though, its a V6, and it's not the same one as the Z31 300ZX, the Z31 has a DOHC, this is a SOHC engine. The VIN plate under the hood has the engine code listed as VG30E, and that's what the insurance company has it in under their computer.
The 4 cylinder is the same body and is common, the V6 is rare. According to my brother, theres only a few hundred in the US, and less than 10 in Canada with the V6.

It's been running solid thus far, only problem being the exhaust disconnected after the cat because of rust. Otherwise, it's been rock solid.

cool. thats a real nice example of that model. a buddy of mine in high school had one and it went pretty good. parts probably aren't easy to find on them these days though.
the VG30E in your car is a 3.0 SOHC and came in all 89-94 maximas, and in N/A and turbo form in all Z31 300Z's. 160 hp @ 5200 rpm and 182 lb. ft. at 3200 rpm for your example. 200 hp in single turbo'ed, non intercooled Z form. that motor is solid as ****, and cake to boost. i used to own a maxima with the VG and never got a chance to b00st it like i was hoping.
check out maxima.org or Z31.org for info on that engine. have fun with it
