Im going to be doing a tranny fluid change but when I bought my car it did not have a manual or anything giving me measurments and what not. I have a GSR swap with the GSR tranny in my EK. Anyone know what kind of fluid is supposed to be used and how much?

 

honda reccomends that you use only honda trasmission fluid. i dont know how much the gsr tranny takes but when you buy the fluid im sure the tech guys can tell you.

 

2.9 qt for b series
1.8 qt for d series
I'd get syncromesh because it is smoother than honda mtf

 

Honda MTF all the way... if you're grinding any gear, then go with GM Syncromesh friction modified...

But if you're not grinding then Honda MTF is your best bet...

 

I have heard of people using that syncromesh but I have never seen it at any parts stores or what not. Can you order it offline or am I just over looking it somewhere.

Also im guessing that you can just go to a Honda dealer and get the tranny fluid that they recommend right? This is my first Honda, I have always been a Mazda guy.

Honda MTF is more-or-less a "tweaked" motor oil with a heavier additive package than you find in today's SJ, SL or SM motor oils. It also may be friction-modified.

But, best to use a full synthetic oil ... especially if you are up north where it gets really cold during the winter.

GM syncromesh fluid is available through GM dealerships ... but it is a thin fluid ... about 25-30% too thin for most Honda manual trannies. Red Line MTL is thicker (and I used to use it a lot) ... but Specialty Formulations MTL-P is close to ideal:
