Default 90-93 stock exhaust manifold

Just how restrictive is it? I'm trying to figure out whether I should by one, or if the sotkc one is ok to run on until I can save up for a H22A swap. Keep in min that I'll have a full exhaust with high-flow cat, as well as a CAI, and I'm located in Arizona, one of the hottest states around.

what do you mean by.." is it ok to run on until.... ". the stock manifold has been working fine for the past 12-15 years hasnt it? unless its cracked or badly damaged... youll be fine without the extra 2-3 hp that you wont notice anyway.

also if youre planning on doing an H22 swap... why are you buying parts for a motor that youre no longer going to use?? thats a waste of money.

The stock 4th gen exhaust system is just as good if not better than an aftermarket one. The EX uses 4-2-1 and provides really good flow and power. If you have the 4-1 (lx and dx) manifold you can easily upgrade and gain modest power and save yourself some coin over an aftermarket header.

.ken, do you mean upgrading a LX or DX manifold to an EX manifold? I've got a 91 LX that I'd like to get some cheap upgrading done and that sounds like the type of thing I'm interested in.

Yep, most junkyards should have that...also since you have an lx you probably have the f22a1, upgrade to the f22a4 intake manifold or the f22a6 oh and you'll need the ex ecu, that should give you some moderate power .

Basically the a4 and a6 manifolds have butterflies/dual runners and allows more intake and better throttle response.

Thanks a lot for the info! Once I get some spare time, I think I'm going to switch out my manifolds.

Is there an advantage to the f22a4 versus the f22a6 intake manifold?

Thats a discussion that has been talked about for a long time, some see the a4 is better some see the a6 is better...really they are almost the same and both have dual intake runners. Here is a link for swapping manifolds: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=19162 <==f22a6 manifold swap
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=27185 <==f22ax 101
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/sh...+swap <==if you want to do a h23a head swap instead (slighty more expensive than the a6 upgrade and you get dual cams)

I seemed to leave out that you need to get the a6 cam, it has a better lift and duration setup than the a1.

He really could probably use all of the parts with the exception of the header. I guess the CAI would depend on what kind of TB he used but the cat and exaust could be kept.
