Default Putting a 4-2-1 Header + K&N Drop-in Filter on a D16Y8 Automatic?

Hey guys,

Just looking for a way to add some more highway passing pep to my wife's '97 Acura 1.6EL (US-market Civic EX drivetrain, or CDN-market Civic Si drivetrain).

What sort of power gains am I going to get on an automatic-tranny D16Y8 with the additon of one of those eBay stainless steel 4-2-1 headers and a K&N drop in?

Would it be better if I got one of those eBay Short Ram Intakes for $40 instead of the drop in K&N?

Any help is appreciated... I expect I'd see a 5-10WHP gain with these mods... I don't expect much, just a bit more 4,000RPM+ power.

expect 1-3hp gain. You're not going to get much power from bolt-ons.

Youre not gonna get dramatic results with simple bolt ons. Forget the k&n drop in, get a generic cold air intake and a generic branded header. It "may" feel a bit peppier.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I was debating between the K&N drop=in and the generic SRI's... I was only concerned about the exposed generic filter element for two reasons:

1) There is no under-car shield on the car ( I don't know if they even came with one, or if the dealer broke/took it), so the engine bay gets pretty dirty... I am a bit concerned that that would affect the filter, especially with heavy rain/snow... Water in the intake?!

2) Do you clean and re-oil a conical, generic filter? I'd just use my K&N cleaner and oil, I guess...

My mudgaurd is ripped and the filter was exposed to everything. Im not saying you wont suck in water, but chances are, you probably wont, as long as you dont drive and floor it through big puddles. I drove like this every rainy season with the filter exposed and nothing happened. I currently use a comptech ice box intake.

Generic filters can be cleaned with the K&N recharging Kit. If you get the cold air intake, you can try to make sure its a 2 piece design so you can change it to a SRI for heavy-rainy days/weeks/months/seasons.
