Default power steering question...

when you take the power steering off a car that was originally equipped with it...do you have to replace the steering components with those from a manual or no?? will it turn tighter or wider or same without the power steering???

I believe power steering has a quicker ratio rack....

I heard of people just taking off the pump and leaving the reservoir there with fluid going to the rack...

Personally though I would swap out the whole rack with a non power one which youll also have to swap out the crossmember as well since they are power and non power specific...

I removed my power steering when I did my ZC swap and left the reservoir to lube the rack. I've had no problems at all with the steering (the car belonged to my dad before I got it & the rack & pinion were rebuilt 2-3 years ago). I love the feel that it has - the car feels so stable at speed - better than either of my boss' cars, a 94 735i and a 00 Continental.

The turning radius remains the same with or without the pump. The only downside is that parallel parking can be a bit of a workout
