get b16 head or gte valve job on b18c1
MY b18c1 head in my civic has a bad exhaust valve.....valve jobs are at least $250+(unless you know someone I don't)......I heard that the b16 heads flow better anyway, so should I just scrap the b18 head and look for a b16 head...I'm already going to spend money on something.....might as well "upgrade" while the engine is apart....?
There have been debates about this before on HT, but i'll give you a quick heads up.
BOTH heads are good, one is not better than the other, and each have advantages.
B18C1 head (P72), slightly higher compression, less chance of detination cause of design of quench area, and makes about 3-4hp more then the PR3 head before 5500 rpm. This is the cast that Dart uses for there heads.
The B16A (PR3) head makes 3-4 hp more to the wheels after 5500 rpm, more intake manifold choices, and is the same cast that Honda uses for its type r engines.
If i were you, i would keep the P72, and have it repaired.

Not to mention a used B16A may have worn out parts as well.
