Default 84 Accord stop light on dash lit

I'm not sure what years used the "stop" light sensors. But the light on the dash
(not the one for the emergency brake, or brake fluid low) is lit. I got 2 sensors
from the junk yard and installed them. The dash light still comes on as soon as
you touch the brake pedal. My original sensors are marked HG06 the ones from
the junk yard are marked MF 06 came out of a prelude. I assume that they are
equilivant.

I was wondering if anyone has tried to fix these?

Since the junkyard ones didn't work, I opened them up. Very interesting, 2 reed
switches in a coil of wire - Normally opened. Close when current passes through
the coil. And what appears to be a diode. However, I not sure about the markings
on the diode - GP08B or GI 845Q. When I check the front to back ration on the
diode, it reads open both ways. I'd like to replace the diodes and see if this
gets them working. Anyone know what an equivalent diode would be? I can't
seem to find a listing for a diode with either of the 2 numbers one the original
ones.

TIA

John

Eyeball your high mounted brake lamps as well. I've seen those set the lamp as well.
Check for equal illumination between all the brake lights across the back. Sometimes a replacement lamp socket is wired backwards, and in one case (I swear I have no idea how he did it) I had a guy who forced an 1157 180deg out (taillight filement lit for brake application) and the lower draw set the warning lamp.

Thanks P_Adams.

I should have mentioned that I've owned this car since new.

It doesn't have the 3rd brake light, but I'll check all the blubs to make sure
I've got them in correctly. But I don't think that's the problem.

The light has worked in the past. When it came on, I had lost a bulb.

Then it started coming on intermittantly, but the brake light bulbs all were
working even though the light said they weren't. While it was intermittang,
once I got to where I was going, turned off the car, then started it back up
to leave, the light would be out and stay out. Now it just stays on.

In disassembling them, they appear to be very simple. The coils show very
little resistance - so they are not shorted or opened, and the reed switches
open and close. I've put a magnet near them and watched the resistance
go from infinate to almost zero.

So that only leaves the diodes, or something up on the dash control board.
Unfortunately, the shop manual I purchased from the dealer when I bought
the car, does not have a very good electrical section - only a block diag.

I may just run to Radio Shack and get some diodes and put them in and see
what happens.

Thanks again, if anyone else has any idea, I'm all ears.
