MSF experience so far!
I did the first (in class) session of the MSF last night from 5:30 - 10:00pm. Alot of videos and alot of workbook questions. My class consists of myself, a guy thats in his late 50s, an 18 guy, 4 older women, and one 17 year old girl. 3 guys - 5 girls..heh.
Anyway, its rediculous how much you think you know about a bike, or riding one, and then have someone thats been teaching it for 20 years open up your mind to a million things you never thought about, or didnt even know existed.
In about a half an hour i will be be on a lil 125 or 250 heh...
So far so good, money well spent at this point.

it's a good starting point for someone getting into cycling, BUT it's not like you couldn't pick it up from reading a couple of books and practicing on a 250..Coming from someone who spent 250 on MSF...

WEll, i did grow up on bikes, and i was getting so sick of hearing everyone say "Youll learn so much that you didnt know from the msf course." And i have to honestly say you were all right.
I spent 5 hours this morning on a 125 suzuki gn? tn? something like that...funny bike, but fun as all hell, and handles like a mad man. Can damn near turn around a basketball. I dont mean to brag, but they wanted to up me to a bigger bike because i was leading the class and hammering the corners so i had to wait alot for people that were new to the sport. So i got on a suzuki dual purpose 250, and that was a blast too.
There was an older guy, on the same dual purpose bike as me, and we had to go around a huge oval like 40 times, both him and i were draggin the pegs, and we were going pretty damn fast on this little course. The instructor thought it was funny, and didnt care one bit that we both had just worn the bottom of the rubber pegs on the two newest bikes they had...lol it was a riot.
When i got back on my bike to head home, MAJOR difference in my turning technique, and abilitys to take much much much tighter turns.
5 hours tomorrow morning, and then im done. Cost me $150 and would definatly say its worth it.

Just so everyone else that has doubts can hear it from someone else.

I spent $250 on my course as well, and it was worth it, no regrets. Not that I had a choice, it was about the same price everywhere in MA, but definitely enjoyed myself and learned a ton.

i don't regret it either...i think the most pertinent part about the course, and most beneficial where the drills w/ the oval/figure 8 outline and cone work.

Finished the course today. I ended up getting 5 points off my final for rolling back on the throttle during a 135 degree right hand turn. Easiest part of the test...heh..and i did that...soon as i did i realized i did it and got back on it, but they still deducted me. One person got a perfect, and i took second with my 5 point deduct.
After we were finished, i got the instructor to try to u turn my R6, and he agreed. He had been riding like 5-6 different bikes the whole time we were there, from cruiseres, dual purpose, someones tourer, and was able to complete everything fine on them. He tried to u turn my bike like 8 or 9 times, and was never able to keep it in the box. He was amazed that he couldnt do it. He really was an excellent rider, had been riding his whole life, and teaching this class for like 10+ years, but still was unable to do it on my bike. He figured he would need a couple days practice to do it. After the course i tried to uturn my bike in the box as well, and was able to get it within inches just outside the box, similar to the way he was getting it, so i feel pretty good about that.
Anyway, awesome class, met some really really cool people, that i will hopefully ride with in the near future, and had an absolute blast doing it all.
