r compound or street tires
I've heard that r compounds cover up mistakes when autocrossing and that you get better by driving on street tires. What do you guys think of this?
Better to do it too late than too early. I switched after only three events because it was over the offseason and I wanted a chance at winning the class title locally. However, I went the first half of the season (5 races) losing by varying amounts (from .1 to almost 2 seconds) to cars that I should've been beating easily, which told me I wasn't using the tires as well as I should have.
However, by having done most of my driving on R-comps, by the time I did start becoming fast, there was no need to learn how to adapt to them, as I'd been running on them all season. I think my my 10th event I got 2nd in PAX and was less than a second off the ASP car that set FTD that day.
Patience is key, just don't rush with decisions on your car because you think you'll get faster.

what class are you in?
what mods have you done?
I'd stick with street tires until you consistantly perform the same every race.
R comps dont cover up mistakes
they make them 10x worse
and you get absolutly no feedback from them so when you push them they dont squeel or tell you they are about to give
and when you do push them to far you have very little time to catch it before your car completly spins out.
The best class would be sts since everyone has street tires.
But if your in anything else your gonna need r comps to get close to winning.
Just pick another person that consistanly wins and isnt modding their car anymore and use them as a benchmark. Stay on the street tires until you have the same gap between you and them stays the same.
And then ask them to drive your car and see how much more you still have to learn
If they run the same time as you than get some r comps and start practising. If not than keep going on street tires.
Right off the bat you will drop a few secs with r comps but nothing compared to what you will drop if you push the r's as far as they can go
