Default tire size larger than 205/40/17?

i like the low-profile of the 205/40/17, but am considering upping the size of the sidewall up one size. would the next size up be a 205/45/17 or a 215/45/17?

205/40/17

205 is the width of the tire

40 is the sidewall of the tire (what you are reffering to)

17 is the total size of the tire to match with whatever 17 inch rim you have.

If you want a larger sidewall size you would want to up the 40 series, not necessarily the 205 part. So you're on the right path of choosing a 45 series tire or higher. The higher the number the larger the sidewall. Just a little FYI
