Default Got Problems...

First off im new to the board as a registered member but have been messing around on the board for a long time.. so anyway. To the problem. My friend has an EG hatch, with a OBD1 B16A that we put in it. When we put the engine in I didnt know anything about Hondas, just how to put an engine in so I gave him a hand so we put it in and neither one of us knew how to hook up VTEC at the time so he took it to a place called GW Racing or something like that. So anyway VTEC was working good for a while until one day it stopped working, so of course I pull up the carpet and look at the ECU only to find that the place that charged him 60 bucks just ran the VTEC wires from the engine to the ECU harness and pushed the wire in the connector with no pin on it, and just taped it there. So I had a pin kit at work and fixed the VTEC wires to a better state in which they were in at the time, and everything was ok until now. I got this idea to go to the junkyard and cut off the ECU connectors about 6 inches back to take the pins out and use them on his VTEC wires so they would fit like factory, other than the butt connector I used to connect them at the time, until I had time and tools in hand to solder them. So we butt connected the wires and hooked them back up and I take it for a ride and it starts missing, intermittent. But, VTEC still worked. So by the time I get back to the place where we were it was missing bad, so he had never replaced the spark plugs so I said lets replace them so we have a starting point. So we replaced them and still a miss, so I started pulling plug wires off at the distributor cap and putting them back one by one until I found the cylinder that was missing. So I narrowed it down to the cylinder that was missing, which was the second cylinder from the ditributor. So we shut it off and I pull the plug out and its still brand new looking and covered in fuel, as if the injector was stuck open and flooding the cylinder. So we get new plug wires to narrow things down, and there is still a miss. So he went and bought a new cap, but didnt get a rotor, and there is still a miss. So when we had the distributor cap off we checked the distributor shaft to see if there was any play, and there was none. So after we put the cap back on, we did a compression test, which was good... So I was thinking that it could be that the injector was stuck open, or maybe it was a lazy injector so he swapped the injectors out for some other stock ones, and the miss is still there. So at this point me and him are stumped, he ordered another ECU off ebay or something, figuring that, that was the last thing we messed with before it screwed up, but he is still waiting on that to get here, anyone know what it might be, thanks for the help.

Default Got Problems...

Hey, if im not mistaken this is a board to help fellow members out with each others Hondas or talk about each others Honda products, not get criticized on their English or typing skills. Now I understand why you have so many posts they are all probably worthless and just back talking someone or criticizing someone on how they stated their question or answer.

Is it missing so bad at idle that it shuts off? Or is it missing high in the power band? Or is it missing all the time all over the place?

Anyway, I would check all your grounds. Then of course the ECU

Help me help you, plain and simple

If I wanted to criticize you about your english skills I would've flamed you at the spot.

Listen you little ****, I have had spent more times helping out members on HT compared to flaming them then you can fathom. I can't help it if you're too stupid to put your post in readable fashion.

Sometimes it misses at idle, not enough to stall out though. Sometimes it runs ok with no misses, until about 3K RPM where it starts missing.

Have you done a leak down to check for bent valves?

That was going to happen as soon as my friend brought me the leak down gauge from his work, so needless to say I havent done a leak down test. I think if the ECU doesnt work that will be my next option.

Its not like hes writing a book hes just asking a question, if your so smart you should be able to read it with no problem. You should also just calm down and leave the noob alone.

Ok, so the other day my friend borrowed a P28 ECU from his friend and we put it in. After we put the ECU in, he started the car, and the ECU started smoking. But, there was still a miss.

So I just started going over everything, and came across a few of the valve cover bolts being loose. Tightened the bolts, and the miss is not as bad now but still there. Also we put the P30 ECU back in.

Now it seems as if the miss is only there sometimes, mainly at idle, when you let off the gas, and when you are barely on the gas. All of which are while driving other than idle. The miss isnt there when you give it alot of throttle while driving.
