Default Power to weight ratio thread but 9 Second T4/SFWD cars ????

Was driving home tonight and thinking about this alot. Alot of my customers also say they want to have a 9 second Street Class car and how much power do they need, well I have seen HIGH HIGH #s coming from Utah guys 800whp+(Jasen Penman and Cortney Green) and then we have fairly low horsepower , low to mid 500whp(At least now we think low like Joe Simpson and Howard Shoaf/RLZ they have 1/8 miles to run low 10's). We also have East Coast guys running low to mid 700whps and soem I hear running in the 600whp+ range too.

For those who don't mind, post up your set ups WHP and Weight and chassis. Due to the nature of the sport and the competitiveness I am sure some will not disclose their #s and set ups. My point in this thread is HORSEPOWER doesn't always make you go the fastest and wanted to show a VARIETY fo 9 second and low 10 second cars here.

Also please please please keep this thread nice and clean, wanted to make a fun post btu with good technical info. Also I am curious who has the fastest cars with the lowest hp BUT also legal for the T4/SFWD classes too. There a few people I talk to say you can go 9's with 450-500whp, I wanna see it. Also No wheelie bars must be class legal set ups.

NOW Who's first?

EDIT:OH yeah 9 seconds in the 1/4 mile not 1/8 mile guys!

Well, mine makes 105whp. Weighs 2600lb, and runs a 16.8@82mph. No wheelie bars or slicks. Did need a parachute though.

Just playing Terry

good topic

yeah i believe it takes a properly prepared chassis to make things easier in the power to weight area, cause right now it seems HP is in the chassis of most cars running consistent times.

P.S. Before people start tearing their cars apart to start shedding weight. just remember, u built a potential 9 second car but can you drive the thing and be consistent

Last year James' si coupe weighed in at 2350. Most I could ever get to hold on the dyno was 733whp and our best pass was a 9.92 @ 155.76.

I know you removed abs, did you take out all the hardware for the sunroof and block it? Anything else you did to drop about 200-250lbs off the teg chassis.

Joe Simpson is working on my car as we speak, and as far as I know, he has run a 10 flat with a little over 500hp.

Edit. Sorry This is art I posted under tony's name.

I took out the sunroof and replaced it with a Carbon Fiber from lighterfaster.com. I did take out ABS. I also took out every wire not used in the car. Anything that could be changed out to aluminum I did.

We have really gone the fastest we can go with our power and its time to make more power. I am working on that right now as we speak. Car is torn down. I just added weight too with some stuff we are doing, but we hope to make more power with it. We cant boost more than 27psi or so.

I figured that was probably what you did. Are you speaking of your current setup that keeps you from boosting past 27 psi?

MSD products. On another car we were having the same problems and we changed out the MSD digital 6 and HVC coil to a M&W igntion and Crane PS92 coil and it cleaned it right up and made more power. I've about had it with MSD stuff and going to the good stuff, M&W.

Lets hope this yeilds us more power.

The mystical secret to going 9's is that you need a 9 sec driver.

Well, I'm only running 10.7's so I may not count for this thread but if you're interested when I ran consistent 10.7's (a few weeks ago) I was in the 550whp (*corrected) range. You have to keep in mind that us high-altitude guys have massive correction factors. I was probably only making 450-475 actual WHP for those passes.

I dynoed right around 600whp corrected but the fuel pump would not keep up like I want it to, so I don't want to run it at that boost level for a full pass.

This was with 240 degree IATs (ouch), a turbo with a lot of axial play and a clutch that grenaded after a few passes.
