I am 17, before I sold my ZX6R(after I crashed it
) I was paying 1300 a year for full coverage on it. That was on top of the 100 a month for the loan on the bike. I only did it because I have a decent paying job, but looking back I would've gone with an F3 CBR or something cheaper.
Take a good look at the bike, and if it has any major issues just stay away from it. Older bikes can be fun, but only if you know how/are willing to wrench on them.

well i'm 19 now .. started riding at 17 on an 83 Suzuki GS650 (no insurance), then moved to a 90 Yamaha FZR600 (no insurance, sold 2 months ago), then this last May, i bought an 03 CBR600RR (no insurance, totalled) ...you will want insurance .. trust me .. and IF you look hard enough, you will find it for a good price.
what kind of bike are you talking about? Year, make, model?
It would be a great idea to get this bike, granted you purchased all the gear, took the safety course, found insurance .. and can be a responsible rider.
Motorcycles are the most exhilerating thing i've ever done, and that i think i ever will do .. but they are also very dangerous and they come with great responsibility.
Good luck with everything

How much is the bike, and what year/make is it?
I got my wife a 1991 Suzuki GS500E with only 7300 miles on it for $1,700.00. It's in excellent mechanical shape and actually looks pretty good too considering the age.
Very reliable transportation for cheaper than most cars, and it gets better mpg than any car.
...but you won't have fun in the rain on a bike my friend!!!

It doesn't rain in So. Cal.
When it does they shut everything down because "something" is falling from the sky.

I turn 18 in October.
My first bike was a Ninja 250 and it was like 75 a month for full coverage, now I have a F4i and it's like 70 a month just for liability, but when I turn 19 it will drop a fair amount/
