Default What kind of tires are best?

Hello members. I am in need of a new set of tires for my slipstreams and was wondering what are the best tires to use for street/track? I don't really care if it's summer tires or not. I have falkens 512 right now, but want something more. Any info will help.

Street/track...

Are you talking about AutoX, road racing, drag racing...???

What size are you looking for?? What else is important to you...how much do you want to spend?

To add a few more questions...

Are you willing to pay more for a tire that performs better?

Do you care about how long (how many miles) the tires last?

Are you planning to one set of tires for the street, and another set for the track?

Do you plan to use the tires in snow or frigid cold as well as nice weather?

What kind of car do you have (year, model)? Do you know what the stock tire size is? What size are your wheels?

These questions are important. No single tire is "best" for every person and every situation. But we can recommend a tire to meet your particular needs and priorities. We just need more information (the answers to these questions) to help us understand what those needs and priorities are.

I have a 94 EG6. auto-x or road racing. I'm looking for 205/50 15s. Anything under $80 each will do. Lasting tires do help. As for the set of tires, I was looking for something I can use on street as well as some track. No snow, but yes rain and sunny weather. i'm from the bay area, so the weather is hot and cold, along with rain. Any suggestions will help greatly. thanks for all your time and for thinking about the tires.

For under $80 in a 205/50R15 for some autoX & some road racing + a lot of daily driving...I would recommend the Dunlop Direzza DZ101 - $56/ea right now on http://www.tirerack.com

According to some recent reviews on the tire rack, many consumers have used these tires in an autoX setting before and been happy with them...

Currently the best tires I have purchased. Much better than my previous BFGoodrich G-Sport tires. Ive taken 1st place in a recent Autocross event with these Dunlop tires and the tires still looks new after 6000 miles of driving including autocross competitions. Wet and dry traction is great. My car is rwd with lsd and the tires still grips even if trying to spin the car, especially when it is raining. -- Review Submitted 2005-07-29

You can check out more reviews here... http://www.tirerack.com/survey...DZ101

I've driven the Direzza's on Dunlop's test track, behind the wheel of a 2005 Mustang GT. They were very predictable and controlable, and grip was great. They held up to 90 minutes of repeated abuse between about 10 different drivers. For the price, I don't think there is anything to lose.

Let me know if you have more questions

Well, first of all, you're much better off getting a 195/50-15 for that car. It's a much better match to your car; the outer diameter is the same as stock (which was probably 175/70-13 or 185/60-14). Remember, when you get a tire like the 205/50-15 with its oversized outer diameter, not only will the speedometer and odometer be off, but it will accelerate slower than stock.

In 195/50-15, I recommend the Kumho Ecsta SPT ($58) or Yokohama ES100 ($59). Both excellent tires for the money, perfect for your needs.

If I had to get the wrong-sized 205/50-15, I agree that the Direzza DZ101 is a great choice at $56. Other choices include the Kumho Ecsta SPT ($65) and the Yokohama ES100 ($75) but I'd get the Dunlop over either of them. Equal or better performance at a lower price makes it a no-brainer.

But I still think you're better off with 195/50-15. (The Dunlop isn't available in that size, though.)

If you wanted to spend a little more money for a great tire, better than any of the ones we're talking about, the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 (their top-of-the-line tire) is available for $89 in 195/50-15. If you're using them for autocross and road course events, the difference in performance is worth the extra money.
