Idling at 2,200 - sensor problem?
My 2000 GSR motor (in a 2000 Civic hatch) is idling at 2,200 and does not go down even when the motor has warmed up. The temp guage is working fine, stops about 1/3 of the way once the engine is warm.
I am getting 2 codes - TPS sensor, and High Voltage (?) reading from the ECT (engine coolant temp) sensor. I tried rewiring the ECT sensor directly into the ECU because I think there might be an open in the harness somewhere, but no luck - still getting the code, and the car still idles at 2,200.
Does anyone know if this can be attributed to the faulty TPS or the faulty ECT sensor? I would like to return the idle RPM to its normal state asap, and deal with the other sensor later. Any ideas/pointers are appreciated.
TIA

THanks for the response - I will try it as soon as I can get a hold of new TPS sensor. Is there an aftermarket one available? I can't find a used one anywhere, and the dealer does not sell them without the trottle body (i.e. $600+).
So I resolved all sensor issues (no more codes), but am still experiencing the high idle problem. To add to it, here is another kicker:
When driving in gear, the tachometer shows the correct RPM reading, I can tell by the VTEC engagement points. But, as soon as I go into neutral (with the car still rolling), the RPM's shoot up to 3,000 which is where it stays until I put it back in gear (still coasting with the clutch pressed in), and it drops down to the correct RPM. Once I come to a complete stop (in neutral), the RPM's drop back down to an already high 2,000.
Any help/ideas please? This is the last outstanding issue with this car (after working on it for 3 months), and I cannot figure it out for the life of me.
Help please!

grounding wire needs replacement--my friend's fc rx7 had the same problem, he replaced the grounding wire that connects to the engine and it was rev-happy again

So I looked at that today, but have not had a chance to do everything on the list. I also suspect this may be an electrical/grounding problem, as my harness is practically plagued with bad wiring and I had to wire in a bunch of things myself.
Which ground do I have to replace? Is this the one that goes from the valve cover to the front of the car, or the one that attaches to the fuse box on the left?

I have the same exact problem with my 00 civic with itr engine...same syptoms but cant figure it out.....also thought it was tps sensor needs fixing....
I checked my TPS sensor tonight, and it is dead on - .5V at closed throttle, 5V at WOT. So, I don't think that's the problem - I am really thinking it's something electrical. Any other ideas?
my friend jus replaced the wire from the valve cover to the front, try that first and if it doesnt help, try the other ground too--it shouldnt be that expensive so u have little to lose
Ok everyone, the problem is gone along with the rest of my electrical problems. I replaced the engine wire harness, and clearly that eliminated whatever electrical problem I was having. The car idles perfectly as it should, no longer revs to 3k when I am decelerating/coasting, and runs GREAT.
So, if you are having a similar issue and have ruled out mechanical component issues, wiring is the next place to look. It's a huge PITA but that's what it took to get mine running right.
Thanks for everyone's replies!

just take the sensor useing a small screwdrive and a small hammer, hammer it counter clockwise at the 2 metel deadbolts.
