Default clutch safte SWITCH...

after testing the:

ignition switch and all wiring
main relay
starter relay
main fuses
sub fuses
starter
new battery
and all grounds i have come to the conclusion that the car is either curse by a witch doctor... or the clutch safety switch...

with my luck i wouldnt doubt the first, even tho i dont believe in the crap...

anyway how can i wire around it, my friend is going to get a switch but im not dropping the pedals/column to hook it all up, looks like you have to, anyway im gonna wire it to a button or something. what exactly should i do, and with what wires!

just take the two wires going to the switch and hook them together to see if it starts, if it doesnt then it isnt the switch if it does then its the switch

if it does and the switch is bad either replace it or leave the wires hooked together and dont have a clutch safety switch

have you ever found little bits of blue plastic on the floor near the pedals?

if so, it would be the old rubber stopper that crumbled and fell. without, the clutch sensor is always open, not allowing you to start your car.

even if you dont see the bits, look under and check it out. its been happening a lot lately. it happened to me a few months ago on my brake light switch, which has the same stopper.

i havent seen any but the car sat broken (like it is now) for a year with people getting in and out etc so i highly doubt they would still be in the floor board if they ever were... so when i get up under there what do i look for?

That happened to me last night. I came out to my car to find the brakes lights on. Sure enough, I found that blue tab laying on the floor.

Same thing happened to me a while back, i just put the blue thing back in. Then it happened again and i just put a 10mm bolt n screw in there that are so so common on our cars.

well i dont know what else it could be, i cant remember if i even explain the situation, here goes

the guy i got the car from drove it to school on a really hot day, pulled in his spot and cut the car off, never cranked again, it would however turn over all day long...

so i go to his house pull a plug off and hold it to a ground. the car cranked up for literally 1 second and sputtered back off.. since then i have changed the starter and get NOTHING so i put back in the other starter, i have tried 4 they are all fine...

the starter just clicks (sometimes) and sometimes it wont do anything (the map sensor will click) we had a power overload due to connecting a battery cable while the car was in the start position, but it cleared out, the ecu is throwing NO codes... and we have swapped ecus as well, anyway we tried to hot wire the starter and by pass everything so my buddy says go (im cranking it with a screw driver in the ig switch, i hit it and the starter frees up and spins (in mid air its not hooked up) and we did that a couple times because we got excited, then that stoped to working...

here is what is fine, good etc and have been tested on another car...

the map sensor is good
new alt
new batt
new starter and tested good
ignition switch and wiring is good
main relay is good
starter relay (behind main relay) is good
all grounds are tighter than a virgin ***, i have the one in the trunk, 2 under the dash, 3 i found under the hood
fuses under the hood are all good
inside fuses are good

its beyond me, soon as the starter spins we throw it in there hook it up and IF ANYTHING just a click click.... to answer your questions, the motor spins perfect and is NOT seized

sometimes it will spin and we get all exited hook it up and nothing, sometimes it wont even spin

im just hoping the saftey switch is on its last leg or was before it completely went out, and maybe thats why were getting a free spinning starter ever now and again

any more advice, this is seriously the craziest thing ive ever seen and ive done cars for a WHILE...

ok guys it was a bad switch... the car still wont crank but at least i can hear it try again!!!

now more trouble shooting... it kinda whines and turns and turns, dosent sound like its anywhere near cranking... i mean it sounds like it would just try all day long!

cliff notes:

i bought car, cranked for maybe 1-2 seconds and sputtered off. then the clutch saftey switch went bad so were werent getting ANY SIGNAL (no start or nothing, starter wouldnt even spin) now that i hard wired that its just not cranking it dosent sound to me like its free spinning at all, just kinda sounds like a whine.. when my mustang snapped a TB it would spin real fast because it didnt have any pressure against it, but this dosent feel like that... im hoping now anyway, im leaning more twards the ignitor/coil or dizzy problem i havent had a lot of time to look at it but i will let you guys know!

ok guys now its turning, and turning almost cranking while i play with the gas, its almost like its cranked as long as i hold the key to start... its THAT close... i have a good battery, alt, starter, main relay, starter relay, fuel pump... what could that be?

maybe something in the dizzy if the ignitor or coil etc was bad would i be getting any amount of spark?

How is your spark, fuel, timing? 3 bad boys that get a car running, and some other things too

im going to check spark again today, before the project started it had spark but so much has went on, we have went from the car turning over but not cranking, to a car that wont even click, were just now getting it to turn over again (saftey switch) so i will see later on today!

also i dont see how timing can just skip, when NO one has touched the timing belt, nor the dizzy... that dosent make since to me, could you explain it...

also for whoever said they took there switch out... im not sure what you meant by that either you have an 88-pre or you hard wired it... i dont believe just pulling the plug will override it, anyway i hardwired mine its fine now, i just need to see why its not cranking!

I have not done this but I am assuming you take the two wires that are on the clutch switch and just touch them together so they are always in contact.

88 is the way to be

rotors can go bad if the distributor bearing pukes. what happens is the distributor shaft will heat up and then the plastic rotor will just melt out of position, obviously completely messing things up.

so it can happen.

have you opened your distributor up yet to check whats going on in there?
