whats the best way to shave moldings?
hi guys i'm taking my car to the shop to get some parts painted and i want to shave my side moldings at the same time. whats the best way, i've heard of welding, fiberglass, bondo and some other scketchy shiz. but i want to know the best/inexpensive way to get this done. thanks
Fiberglass...comin from a hot rod family seen enough to make you sick...
however its a little harder to find someone that knows what they are doing...but when you do its the best way to go I think...

one of my friends did it to his car.. he took out the door panels, welded metal plates behind the holes, filled in the top with fiberglass.. sanded it down.. put a layer of bondo on top.. sanded it down nice and smooth.. then prepped it for painting. usually the only thing that hurts your wallet the most is the paint, because you have to paint almost the entire car for it to match
lol, dont i wish it was that easy! i'm nervous about doing it cause its a big project and i want it done right. if anyone from the tampa area knows a good place please let me know. thanks

thanks for the help, how much is the average price to shave (welding and filling) paint not included. also would you say its worth shaving the antena?
shave your antenna? dont you need that for your radio. nah i dont think its worth doing. yeah i hear bondo cracks in a couple years when you shave your moldings. i hear welding is choice right now.
shave the antenna! the integra's antenna is one of the UGLIEST parts of the car. It looks like a damn cell phone tower when it's up. Just shave the antenna, get XM radio, and put the XM Radio antenna where your rear window squirter is/was.
Whether you are shaving the molding, antenna, door handles, etc... Welding is the best way to do it. No chance of cracking like with Bondo or fiberglass. Get a reputablle body shop to do it. It will cost you though. But welding is DEFINATLY, HANDS DOWN, THE BEST WAY TO SHAVE an Integra.
Mach3 for personal use of course.

i don't think it'd cost too much extra to weld the holes.. my friend did all the labor himself. he said welding the holes in was a minor step. the bulk of the cost will be on paint
alright boys...check it....first off...it will cost you around $60 per hole on the car...cause most shops charge $45-65 an hour. About an hour a hole. You must weld a peice on the back of the door, then firber it then filler primer/bondo over the top, sand...paint. Most likely you will have to paint the whole car. The cost of spot painting will be about the same. The doors will look like ITR doors. So in a way if you get a hook up on parts buy the doors and just shave the small part on the 1/4 panel. Shave the antenna and rain channels too. And all emblems. To do everything completely....all holes...emblems....door handles....antenna....rain channels....water thingie on top of car.....and paint....will be usually around $3500 for a decent painjob. Mine cost me a grand total of $14000. I have show paint on my car. It is flat black with hella clear....it looks like glass. But....I am sure you just want your car to be cool and driveable. My car is a show car, so skip the 10G paintjob. But serious...should be around $2500-4500 unless you do the work yourself and take it to maaco($600 to do it yourself w/maaco).....eww
