crx in the winter
i was wondering how well a crx does in the snow? i know they won't do good in a foot of snow but how well do they do i just a few inches. i have been told that they do pretty good by 3 people but those people all had there crx for sale so i don't know if they were telling the truth. thanks for the replies.
Mine faired well here in the snowy and mountainous Poconos, PA. I did have a hard time on one local street as it doesn't get plowed until the snow stops. I sometimes have a hard time negotiating the hilly road to my house, especially if there is a slower car in front of me. But with good snow tires and smart winter driving \, the CRX isn't all that bad!

Actually dude you will be surprise my buddies 90 Si hatch did well in the snow and I'm talking about 1-2 feet, just don't stop keep it moving. Only stop in the cleared spots.
Tell Walpak I said hello...we played our soccer tournaments there when I was in HS.

its not going to do well I live in reno and we always get at least a couple of inches a year and when it does snow I can't go anywhere... it sux because it's almost not worth it... being left stranded
Its worth it, if you drive your CRX in the winter, to get 2 ( or all 4) steelies and just get some of the best snow tires you can find...should help alot.

As well as any other FWD car. A set of dedicated snow tires helps tremendously.
I would highly recommend not driving a CRX in the snow, however, because it will rust away rather quickly when exposed to road salt. And that's an understatement . . .

yeah i know about the salt. u just have to wash the car if the temp gets over 32. it would be kinda a pain but it would take out buying anyother car.
back in the 90s when I actually drove my CRX Si in the winter it wasn't that bad. Like someone said, grab some steel wheels with really good snow tires and you should be OK. Believe it or not I actually pushed my friend's Starion up a hill in front of his house because he couldn't make it up

My old CRX (RIP) was ok in the snow with 13" steel wheels and snow tires. I also live near the Pocono's, so it gets kinda bad up here with all the hills and turns. If you have straight flat roads for the most part i think you'll be ok if you take it easy. I know mine didn't want to turn in the snow that well and for some strange reason loved to slide into ditches
I also live in reno but up on Mt. Rose and let me tell you something. When i wake up 2 hours before school and gotta dig my car outta 4 feet of snow sux. But once u get it on the road well i gotta make it up a little hill outta my neighbor hood. i got some wal-mart all season tires for the winter and that helps a little but it is hard still. If you lived in town i would have no problems at all with my CRX in the winter
i live in dayton and i have been using CRX's to deliver pizza for like 5 years now (si's, hf's, and dx's) i havent had any problems with them in the snow they just cut right threw it as long as you keep moving. and the best part is if you do get stuck at a stop you can ussually just get out and push it your self becasue they are so light.
its scary on downhills, last winter, i went down the hill at 25mph b ut in neutral like a idiot, damn thing spun down the whole hill, i didnt crash though, no oncoming traffic, just learn how to manuever your car and things arent as bad
2 words studded snow tires, but i will kick your *** if you this route. By a new car and beat that thing to hell instead of the rex.
PS i drive 94 GSR in the winter and let my Hatch sit and not rust.

I was really surprised at the difference my quaife atb diff. makes in the winter. I agree with buying a set of snow tires, if only I had the money though.
Another cool thing to do is throw a couple big bags of cat litter in your trunk. You can get a 25lb bag of litter at wal-mart for $2.50. Buy two and haul them around for added weight in the back (and yes, 50lbs makes a nice difference in a crx), and if you should ever get stuck somewhere, tear one of those bitches open and voila! instant traction material! Hopefully you won't have to open them, and then you can donate them to the humane society come spring time.

I have the quaife because it came in a tranny that I bought to replace my grindy old one. not to mention that was like a year ago.
I really don't do as much skiing as I'd like to, being as there are like 5 major ski resorts within an hour's drive. what I'd really do is give snowboarding a shot. how bout you?
