JDM engine swap...any changes?
OK so I've come to a decision and I'm going to get a JDM H22A. (My H22A1 has over 180,000miles and is burning oil and getting worse) I also want to put on some bolt ons. I'm not looking for a ton of power, just something with a little more punch than stock. My top budget is $4000 and that is pushing it a little. I figure the JDM will run me anywhere from $2000-$2500 leaving me with $2000-$1500 for mods. Here's what I figured on:
-Skunk2 or OBX Intake Manifold
-68mm Throttle Body(not sure what brand but I did see for $600 a skunk2 IM and TB package deal)
-Greddy Headers
-Hondata(not sure which one but this might come later on anyway)
I do already have an AEM V2 cold air intake and a cat back system.

So you're gonna replace a 180k mile engine w/ one of unknown miles?
If I were you I'd do a rebuild on your current motor, bump the compression slightly, throw some type-s cams in, tune it and have $$ left over.
That way you'd have a 0 mile motor whose history you know about and some money in your pocket still.

My big problem with rebuilding is I don't know of any good mechanics here on Long Island to rebuild it. I know a few that could pull and put an engine in. How much do u think what you sugessted would run me?
its cheaper to swap than it is to rebuild. I just bought a jdm h22 through http://www.hmotorsonline.com All their engines average 35k miles. Steve told me that the exhaust and intake manifold will need to be swap from the usdm motor to the JDM motor.
I'd say save your modification money. You never know when you will need to fix something.

i just swap in a jdm h22a motor too, the millage is around 30-40 K if u buy it from http://www.hmotorsonline.com. Almost all JDM motor is around 30-40 K millage because in japan there smog regulation is that u have to get rid of the car(trade in or import here) at 35-40 K millage. unlike us, we can drive the car and get it smog every two years. no millage limited.( no wonder US is so populated)

sorry i was just wondering. what would he have to do to rebuild his motor so that it would be like a brand new motor?

spend about 5k. New pistons, Rods, crank...all the internals, bearings and ****. Machine work. It'd be alot of work just to make it a new engine.
my full engine swap with a new flywheel and clutch was 3 grand -- a rebuild would be more plus the jdm h22as are stronger than the us counterparts....
