loud rattle after h22a swap
hello,
i just finished swapping out my h23a1 with a h22a and went to start it up, only to hear a very loud rattle. it sounds like it is coming from the top of the engine, and not the bottom. I swapped this one in because the last one threw a rod through the front of the engine, and this sound gave me a little deja vu. I cant remember if this sound was after the rod came out or before. anyways, to the actual question:
what could this sound be? i was thinking maybe bent valves, but how can that happen without other major problems? is there something i overlooked possibly? is it another rod? could it somehow be a timing or fuel problem causing a lean condition?
thanks for any help.

do a compression test like stated before.
you can also pull each spark plug one at a time while the motors running
if it doesnt make a different sound than you're in trouble.
make sure you wear some good leather gloves or you'll get shocked though

i pulled off the valve cover and everything looks fine, and looks like the owner took good car of it and changed the oil regularly. i have video of the car running, not sure if anyone can tell because of the sound. i dont know where i can host the video though. on this swap i changed the jdm dizzy for my usdm one, and i used my h23a1 fuel rail. i have seen here where i need to use a f22a1 rail, but from the pictures it looks identical to mine. i would just use the jdm one if i could find someone to extend the fuel line, but i havent had any luck.
the problem is the knock/rattle but when the car is reved slightly, it shuts off and wont start again. since the engine looks clean (inside and out) and doesn't look like it was ever cracked open, i doubt it could be mechanical, but i am not a real mechanic. if someone can host the mp4 you will be able to hear the sound.
thanks for any help
edit: i got it from a company in new jersey, he had a huge warehouse full of engines and jdm cars.
