D16Y7 Into 89 CRX
Ok i gotta 89 CRX with an auto D15. Im wantin to put the motor outa my wrecked 97 CX into it. Ive got the whole set up from my wrecked car so I was wanting to swap the auto also.
Is it possible? Im not tryin to have any performance gains or anything, just tryin to have somethin to drive. What would be needed for the swap? Ive got Motor, Tranny, Clutch, Flywheel, ECU, Linkage, Pedals and all the lines and wiring harnesses.
ANY help at all on this would be greatly appreciated, im planning on doing this swap pretty soon and im not sure at all were to begin... Thanks ALOT.

If it is all you go put it in. As you already know the CX is not exactly seen as a desirable swap. If you must put it in otherwise look for a D-series VTEC motor or even better a B-series motor.
Just remember you will have to make your car OBD1 and the motor OBD1 to run that motor in your chassis. And you will have to either find a cable D-series or convert to hydro tranny. Since 97 is hydro and OBD2 and CRX is cable and OBD0
I think that you would be better off finding another motor. That is a lot of work for a not so wonderful motor.

Well basically im broke, and I need a car to drive. Like I said im not tryin to gain any performance im just tryin to have a car to drive. I dont see why I need to convert to OBD0 since ive got the OBD2 wiring harness and ECU. And if im running the OBD2 ecu why would i need to convert to cable tranny?
Thanks for the help...

Your car is OBD0. Converting it to OBD2 would require replacing most every wire in the car, which you don't want to do. At the very least, you would have to replace the ecu harness and everything that goes under the dash. Then you have an OBD2 CRX, which isn't really a cool thing to have. OBD2 is a bitch, you don't want it.

The ecu really doesn't have much to do with the trans. You're going to have to replace the whole pedal assembly anyway to add the clutch. I'm not sure if the later pedal assemblies fit, so you may have to find a pedal assembly for an EF, in which case you'll have a cable setup.
Unless the CX has an auto trans (did that exist?)...

Im pretty sure you can mate your cx longblock to your auto tranny in your crx and just use the IM and exhaust manifold from the old crx motor. you wont have to convert to obd1 or obd 2 because you will be using everything from the old motor.
correct me if im wrong

i have a y7 out of a 2000 civic which i put in my 91 si with no mods except the gay intake, but then again my motor already had mpfi , but everything bolted right up man, had a little wiring to do, but not hard at all. but i don't know about the whol auto to manual shtuff, prolly a bitch dude, but if thats all you got, do it.
You don't necessary have to convert to OBDI. You could swap in the y7 Block and Head and run the stock OBD0 pm6 (Si) ECU. Everything else bolts up. You would have to convert from DPFI to MPFI.

The CRX already has the auto tranny in it?
If that's the case, you're just talking about switching just the actual block and head. As long as you reuse all the old DX wiring/intake manifold/ecu/tranny, it's pretty much plug and play. I'm not sure why everyone is saying obd conversions are necessary. They're not.
Changing to a manual tranny...the swap become significantly harder. If you wanted cheap/easy, that's not the way to go.

i'm not sure abot the Auto Tranny..... should be able to bolt up since your car is already aut.. but dont quote me on that
otherwise Sender is right.. Just use the Intake manifold from your old engine, the Exhaust manifold, the Distributor and your Wiring Harness... as well as all of the D15 Engine mounts and brackets....
Otherwise.. the only thing that will be different is the Plug that goes into the Alternator, in which you'll have to get the D16y7 plug...
If you want performance out of the Y7.. you could pick up all A6 parts and make it an SI ^_-

Ok thanks ALOT...this helps a ton. See since i wrecked my CX, ive been bummin rides, an i came across an 89 CRX with a messed up D15 for 250 bucks and a bad motor.
This is probably what im gonna have to do unless i find another Hatchie somewhere for cheap. Any1 else can gladly add there input.

Holy crap, I just did this swap. You need to run the d16y7 as a DPFI motor. Take the intake manifold, exhaust manifiold, distributor, alternator, and drivers side mount from the stock d15 motor and it will bolt right up to the CX motor. Then you don't have to worry about ecu changes. Do this swap. It will cost 0 dollars.

Gah thanks so much yall....Im supposed to be gettin the CRX monday. I work so its gonna take awhile to do the swap but I think im gonna do it
How does it run? An is it better on gas since its only DPFI? Just curious...like I said im not tryin to make a drag car or anythin

Ooooh yea another thing.. What other parts from my CX are interchangable?
Like i know the cx gauge cluster isnt anything special but would it work? It looks a little bit cleaner then the old school cluster...And what about my suspension? It should bolt up the same to shouldnt it?
