FRAK !!!

I had some issues a while ago... I narrowed it down to having a bad coil. I replaced it with a brand spankin new MSD Blaster 3 SS Coil (looks like a house). As a precaution, I also replaced the ICM with a brand new ICM (not OEM).

I still have the original cap and rotor which didn't look bad and have about 35k miles on em.

The car now pulls fine... but at 7k... the tach jumps wildly to 8k+ and the engine kinda skips a beat when it happens. Prior to the new icm and coil... it would stutter at many points in the rpm band... but now with the new parts... it's only happening at 7k... pulls fine till then.

So WTF now ? Tach signal ? All the dizzy wires looked fine. Mag Pickup ? Help ?

clean and tighten the connections to the icm

 

The distributor assembly could be bad. I just went through the same thing a few months back with my ITR swap.

I tried 3 different ICMs. 1 used and 2 new ones. It would work for a while then the ICM would die.

Does your distributor have red dust inside the cap? Mine did, a sign of bearing failure.

The only thing that fixed my problem was a new distributor assembly.

 

fak... no red stuff.

But I just found out BOTH my battery AND alternator are kaput...

I am replacing both and I'll update after...
